Job description

Job Purpose

Support the delivery of the University of Glasgow’s Tutoring and Sutton Trust Summer School programmes, working with colleagues and partners to achieve positive outcomes and with the Summer School and Taster Week Coordinator and Widening Participation Development Officer to improve and develop the programmes. Work with colleagues in Summer Programmes and Community Engagement team to aid planning and implementation of all Summer School programmes.

 

Main Duties

1. Provide administrative support for the setting up, day to day running and coordination of the UoG Senior Phase and Mathematics Tutoring Programmes and Sutton Trust Summer School (STSS). Liaise with appropriate WP&LLL, ER and wider University academic and support service staff to plan, promote, develop and implement the programmes efficiently and effectively, to ensure the smooth running of these events including consideration of logistical and health and safety issues.

2. Liaise with other participating HEIs to plan and implement the Mathematics Tutoring Programme.  Coordinate on campus welcome and training events and end of programme graduation.

3. Liaise with the Sutton Trust to plan and implement the STSS. Attend external meetings and compile reports as required to maintain and fulfil the terms and conditions of the partnership with the Sutton Trust.

4. Liaise with external contacts and agencies, e.g., Local Authorities (LAs), secondary schools, Further Education Colleges, to promote and engage with the tutoring programmes and STSS, ensuring their relevance and benefit to stakeholders and participants.

5. Facilitate sessions on the UoG campus, working jointly with other delivery staff, tutors and mentors as appropriate. Work with appropriate WP, ER and University staff to set up, deliver and facilitate online activities for students. Liaise with academic and support service colleagues across the University and external partners to support coordination of logistical and health and safety issues related to tutoring programmes and STSS.

6. Responsible for the input and maintenance of data relating to pupils participating in the Tutoring programmes and STSS in a fit for purpose database. Conduct data analysis to inform programme delivery, future planning and annual reporting to ensure the programme fulfils and delivers against the University Widening Participation strategic priorities.

7. Working with fellow WP&LLL colleagues, jointly develop Tutoring programmes and STSS, messages, resources and activities, maintaining currency and relevance of each programme and implementing improvements to delivery and content on an ongoing basis.

8. Produce summary data on student participation and outcomes for inclusion in annual reports reviewing the programmes and recommending actions as necessary for improvement. Work with appropriate WP colleagues to analyse programme outcomes and disseminate evaluation and research associated with the Programmes.

9. Liaise with admissions officers regarding STSS participating students’ applications and progressions, both within and out with the UoG and advocate on students’ behalf.

 

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Sound understanding of the learning skills required for study in Higher Education (HE).

A3 Knowledge of the Scottish secondary school and FEC systems.

 

Desirable

B1 Knowledge of the work of the Sutton Trust and University of Glasgow WP provision

B2 Understanding of University policy and procedure relating to the recruitment and employment of staff.

B3 Understanding of government regulations relating to working with young adults.

B4 Understanding of University policy on Equality and Diversity procedures and policies.

B5 Full, clean driving licence.

B6 Knowledge of UofG electronic systems, e.g. MyCampus, BI-Query.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £26,338 - £30,805 per annum, pro rata.

 

This post is part time (17 hours p/w) and has funding to 29 August 2025 in the first instance. Shift pattern will be agreed with the successful candidate.
