Job description

Job Purpose

Provide administrative support for the Reach (Access to the Professions) Programme to ensure its effective and efficient delivery to circa 1,500 secondary school pupils in 160+ schools in the West of Scotland, working with partners to achieve positive outcomes and with the Head of Widening Participation and Senior Reach Programme Coordinator to review, improve and develop the programme.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide administrative support to the Reach and Access Coordinators, to ensure the smooth delivery of the Reach and Access Programmes online and in secondary schools in the west of Scotland. Liaise with other WP, External Relations (ER) and wider University academic and support service staff to plan, implement and support the development of the Programme in schools and on the University of Glasgow (UofG) campus. Administer the day-to-day running of activities.

2. Liaise with schools in the west of Scotland to administer the Programme and ensure its smooth delivery and development.

3. Provide support to fellow WP colleagues in the recruitment, selection and training of WP Tutors and mentors in all areas pertaining to the delivery of Reach.

4. Input and maintain data relating to pupils participating in Reach in a fit for purpose database. Extract and manipulate data to inform programme delivery and future planning.

5. Working with the Reach Coordinators, support the development of Reach materials and activities, including the Reach website, Virtual Learning Environments and social media platforms.

6. Support participating pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds throughout the Reach programme and into University, providing advice and guidance on study within school and on the HE and UCAS application procedures and processes, including interview and pre-entry test advice. Annually collate final student profiles to aid participating students’ applications to HE.

7. Jointly conduct the planning and implementation of online, in-school and on-campus sessions for secondary schools. Liaise with appropriate internal and external contacts to ensure the smooth running of these events including coordination of logistical and health and safety issues.

8. Jointly oversee the marking of Reach Programme written assignments and collation of final pupil profiles and certificates to ensure quality assurance.

9. Work with the Head of WP, Reach Coordinators and WP researcher to conduct and disseminate evaluation and research associated with the Programme, including annual reporting to the Scottish Funding Council (SFC). Utilise UofG student records systems, e.g. MyCampus, BI-Query to achieve this.

10. Responsible for own complex and changing workload, with the ability to work under minimal supervision.

11. Deputise for the Reach and Senior Reach Coordinator, when appropriate, in liaising and collaborating with staff from other Reach partners and other stakeholders.

12. Support the Head of WP as required to administer broader areas of UofG WP provision.

13. Conduct other duties as required to support the Head of WP, WP team and wider ER staff.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role, Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Sound understanding of the learning skills required for study in Higher Education (HE).

A3 Knowledge of the Scottish secondary school system.

A4 Knowledge of HE admissions procedures and the UCAS application process.

 

Desirable:

B1 Understanding of University policy and procedure relating to the recruitment and employment of staff.

B2 Understanding of government regulations relating to working with young adults.

B3 Understanding of University policy on Equality and Diversity procedures and policies.

B4 Full, clean driving licence.

B5 Knowledge of UofG electronic systems, e.g. MyCampus, BI-Query.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £26,338 - £30,805 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and fixed term to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns
