Job description

The Centre for Data Science and AI at the University of Glasgow was established in 2024 to facilitate world-changing, impactful and collaborative research in data science and AI. The Centre supports research programmes across six key Data Science and AI areas; Health and Life Sciences, Social Sciences and Economics, Engineering and Physical Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Innovation and Impact, and the Science of Data Science and AI.

 

The vision and aim of the Centre for Data Science and AI Fellowship scheme is to build capacity in data science and AI. We will welcome four CDSAI Fellows as a cross-disciplinary cohort. This will enhance our institutional capability and support emerging research leaders in Data Science and AI with access to Glasgow’s sector leading career and professional development provision.

 

 

Job Purpose

To lead the development and delivery of an independent research programme that contributes to and aligns with the strategic priorities of the Centre for Data Science and AI, and ambitions of the University of Glasgow Research Strategy 2025. CSDAI Fellows will be drawn from diverse fields and appointed within the Centre for Data Science and AI and play a key role in connecting and expanding our existing AI portfolio, and fostering new directions through collaborative research.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To lead and establish a strategically aligned portfolio of research, including independent and collaborative projects,

2. Establish and maintain an extensive research profile and reputation and that of the CDSAI through dissemination of independent and joint high quality research outputs and generation of research knowledge exchange and impact, and gathering indicators of esteem

3. Lead the development, both independently and in collaboration with others (including stakeholders) of the identification of potential funding sources and lead in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research of international quality. Supervise and oversee the delivery of funded research.

4. Make a substantial contribution to developing and enhancing the research profile of the Centre for Data Science and AI, through the establishment of research collaborations internally and externally.

5. To develop impact activities by, for example, establishing research and/or educational links with industry, influencing public policy and engaging externally for civic and societal benefit.

6. Take on administrative or management responsibilities within the subject associated with research, training and impact activities.

7. Engage in continuing personal, professional and career development activities to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in accordance with desired career trajectory..

8. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Centre for Data Science and AI leadership group.

9. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together 2025

 

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications 

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in related discipline with a growing reputation in research within the subject area.

A2 Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in the specialist subject/discipline to develop research and teaching programmes/methodologies/learning support

 

Desirable:

B1 Membership of a relevant professional body, where appropriate, or commitment to achieving membership within the timeframe of the fellowship

 

Skills

Essential:

C1 Ability to drive, influence, develop and sustain an international research profile

C2 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those across a diverse group of staff and students.

C3 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/Centre.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1 Sufficient post-doctoral research experience.

E2 Demonstrate experience of independent research through an established track record of high-quality outputs.

E3 Evidence an international research profile in the subject area with potential for expansion, through applying for, and securing, external research funding aligned with Centre priorities and objectives.

E4 Track record of development (personal and professional) towards excellence in research leadership including supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate level researchers.

E5 Demonstratable commitment to positively contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of research culture including Glasgow’s five priority areas, open research, research integrity, recognition, career development and collegiality.

E6 Demonstrate a commitment, in line with the Researcher Concordat, to supporting the career development and professional development of colleagues.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £49,559 - £57,422 per annum.

 

This post is full time, and has funding for up to 3 years.
