Job description

Job Purpose
To deliver exceptional and informed support to visitors and prospective students at the Garscube campus. To represent the University at online and in-person outreach events, including school visits across Glasgow. To produce engaging video content for the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine’s YouTube and Instagram channels, offering an authentic student perspective on life at the University of Glasgow and in the city itself. To serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for the University by participating in digital media initiatives such as livestream Q&As, promotional videos, and photoshoots.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide informative campus tours to visitors to the Garscube Campus. Engaging with visitors and ensuring that the route taken is suitable for any visitors with disabilities. Also, be aware where first aid assistance can be found on campus.
2. To provide an excellent and informed campus tour experience to different types of groups including prospective students, school groups and larger groups (up to 20 people).
3. To act as guides at Open Days and Offer Holders’ events and other on-campus events at the Garscube. Providing an excellent visitor experience and ensuring that you are aware of your responsibilities and are taking a proactive approach in assisting visitors with enquiries and directions
4. To assist the Student Recruitment, Marketing and Admissions (SRMA) team in collecting information about how other universities are promoting their student experience. Collecting print materials at events and sharing examples of web and digital marketing. To provide a student insight into what messages and methods of delivery are the most effective.
5. Promote the School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine and student life at Glasgow to prospective students (and other key stakeholders) by creating engaging content throughout the academic year for use on, and distribution via, the school’s marketing and social media channels.
6. Participate in online Q&As to answer questions about studying at Glasgow and share your experience as a student.
7. Attend meetings with SRMA staff and other SBOHVM Student Ambassadors to input and provide advice to help shape the school’s content and creative approach.
8. Keep a record of hours worked and submit pay claims online to the SRMA Team.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge /Qualifications
Essential
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post gained through work experience in a similar role.
Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 4 in English [National 4] or equivalent, and experience of working in a similar role.
A2 Current undergraduate student studying Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Biosciences at the University of Glasgow.
A3 Accurate and informed knowledge of the degrees offered by the SBOHVM (using the prospectus as a guide), systems and services
Skills
Essential
C1 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – be able to start conversations as well as respond positively to questions
C2 Professional approach – you will be representing the University and should always be professional
C3 Excellent time-management skills and reliability – SRMA staff need to be sure that they can rely upon you to turn up at events on time
C4 Comfortable and confident on camera
Experience
Essential
E1 Experience of engaging with the public. Enthusiastic about the University of Glasgow as a great place to study and the city of Glasgow as a great place to live.
E2 Experience of working as part of a team.
Desirable
F1 Experience and knowledge of video filming and editing.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 3, £23,028 - £23,881 per annum, pro-rated to the number of hours assigned to, and worked by, you.
8 positions available. These posts are offered on a part time/ fractional basis (10 hours over the duration of the contract) and fixed term. All hours are paid via timesheets.
