Job Purpose

To lead on recruitment marketing and conversion activity and contribute to the development of an enquirer and applicant communications strategy for the higher education market, ensuring that this links clearly to overall recruitment activity at all levels of study.

 

To implement and monitor effective marketing and communications as part of the External Relations (ER) strategy to grow the number and quality of applications of both domestic and overseas students. To develop and deliver recruitment and conversion activity across both undergraduate and postgraduate levels working with colleagues in the Student Recruitment Marketing team, the Colleges and other key stakeholders both internally and externally, ensuring an integrated approach across a variety of media.

 

To manage key strands of activity within the Student Recruitment Marketing team, ensuring timely delivery of email and digital campaigns and other media and events.

 

To coordinate the production of promotional material, ensuring consistent and effective communication of key messages to current and prospective students.

 

Main Duties

1. Manage student recruitment and conversion campaigns in both domestic and international markets at all study levels - developing strategy, implementing activity and reporting on outcomes, ensuring social media is fully integrated into campaign strategy by working closely with the Social Media team.

2. Implement systems to ensure consistent enquiry data capture and management whilst developing creative communications to both undergraduate and postgraduate audiences. Liaising with colleagues, provide guidance on brand and design and ensure production meets key recruitment deadlines. Plan and execute digital recruitment activity aimed at recruiting prospective Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, Postgraduate Research and Online Distance Learning, UK and international students.

3. Manage marketing e-communications: writing, editing and proof-reading promotional material for External Relations and other University-wide publications. This includes the management of student recruitment e-communications, including audience segmentation, concept creation, copywriting, image selection, liaising with contacts across schools/colleges/services to gather relevant information and edit where required.

4. Manage the content of recruitment focused web pages, to ensure content is up-to-date, timely and engaging.

5. Look at current business processes and requirements identified by users and identify potential improvements through the implementation of CRM platforms.

6. Provide suitable training and development in recruitment platforms to colleagues, provide support, training and advice on the use of these platforms ensuring currency of information and a straightforward user journey.

7. Support market research/insight and user experience activities to ensure communication content and delivery is timely and appropriate for stakeholder audiences.

8. Undertake any other duties as required by the Student Recruitment Marketing Manager.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge / QualificationsEssential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles, or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s). A2 Marketing qualification with relevant formal training

A3 A strong understanding of marketing and communications activities and good practice including GDPR and data protection legislation as it applies to student recruitment, communications, and handling applicant data.

A4 Knowledge of the most up-to-date digital marketing and social media approaches.

A5 Knowledge of HE sector or marketing to the youth sector.

A6 Knowledge of student recruitment marketing with a detailed knowledge of target markets, key platforms and high-level recruitment campaigns.

A7 A strong understanding of content management systems.

 

Desirable

B1 Postgraduate/professional qualification in marketing.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Demonstrable experience of managing multi-channel recruitment or conversion campaigns from planning through evaluation.
E2 Significant experience leveraging student recruitment systems to design, execute, and optimise student recruitment pipelines, with a strong track record of improving lead nurturing and conversion outcomes.

E3 Experience interpreting campaign and recruitment data to produce insights, reports, and recommendations for future activity.

E4 Experience of planning and progressing work activities within professional guidelines or organisational policy, applying initiative and independent judgement. E5 Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams (e.g. Admissions, Recruitment Teams, Colleges).

E6 Considerable experience conducting market research to inform content creation.

E7 Experience using sector-recognised marketing platforms and engagement tools (e.g., Unibuddy, Gecko, DotDigital).

 

Desirable: F1 Experience using editing software such as Adobe Photoshop.
F2 Experience managing external suppliers (e.g. creative agencies, data providers, digital marketing vendors).

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and fixed term to cover secondment leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.

 

Please Note: The University would consider a secondment opportunity for this post. Applicants should seek clearance for release for secondment from their line manager before making a formal application.
