Job description

Job Purpose 

This role will work closely with the Residence Life team (ResLife) to enhance the visibility of ResLife activities in halls, particularly focused on promoting events and campaigns, as well as communicate the broader activities of the Residence Life service.

Your responsibilities include creating an overall communications strategy encompassing events, social media, website content, and email communications, all while adhering to University of Glasgow guidelines and reflecting our student voice.

 

You will lead the promotion of our Residence Life events program and work closely with colleagues to inform the design and branding of our new service.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

1. Plan, coordinate and create a variety of Residence Life content types (videos, articles, infographics) that adhere to the University style guides and reflect the appropriate tone and style and manage a content calendar to plan and schedule communications in alignment with the academic year and Residence Life activities.

2. With guidance from your line manager, take the lead and support the development and oversight of the Residence Life presence on social media platforms, including Bluesky, Instagram, and LinkedIn, ensuring a clear, captivating, and consistent voice while providing accurate and timely information.

3. Collaborate with the wider Residence Life team and Accommodation Services and use detailed knowledge and experience to produce content for the University of Glasgow living platforms, promoting Residence Life events and messages related to living well in halls.

4. Work closely with colleagues in the ResLife team to promote Residence Life campaigns, activities and events, while working to GDPR regulations collecting and curating content from previous Residence Life events, to use materials from past events for promotional purposes.

5. Collaborate with colleagues in the ResLife team during events (both online and in person) to support the smooth execution of activities.

6. As part of the larger Residence Life Team, assist the team in identifying opportunities to capture Residence Life activities, using your initiative and creative skills to develop a suite of original promotional videos.

7. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop marketing collateral, such as brochures, presentations, and other promotional assets.

8. Create and deliver workshops to support our Residence Life volunteer team in developing the skills needed to promote Residence Life events.

9. Assist the ResLife Team in gathering and collating student feedback on their Residence Life experiences to inform future activities and measure of impact.

10. Analyse web traffic to measure the success of content, including conversion and bounce rates.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

Knowledge/Qualifications 

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher/ Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role, OR the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.

A2 Detailed knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, LinkedIn) and digital marketing techniques to effectively create, schedule, and manage content, as well as measure engagement and success.

A3 Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Canva, video editing software) and a strong understanding of visual design principles for creating engaging, high-quality promotional materials, videos, and graphics.

A4 Understanding of effective communication strategies and branding principles, particularly in an academic or student-focused environment, and how to craft messages that resonate with diverse audiences and align with institutional goals.

A5 Knowledge and understanding of relevant policies and regulations, including accessibility requirements (e.g., WCAG standards), data protection laws (e.g., GDPR) and Equality Act 2010, ensuring that all content and communications adhere to legal and institutional standards.

 

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of social analytics tools to schedule content and generate reports on social media performance.

 

Skills  

Essential: 

C1 High creativity and enthusiasm, with the ability to identify opportunities and develop engaging, high-quality digital content that resonates with the target audience.

C2 Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to confidently convey ideas and information and to liaise effectively with colleagues at all levels of an organisation.

C3 Strong team player with ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

C4 Proven ability to draft engaging content for a variety of media, including print, web-based information, and social media.

C5 Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise a busy workload and produce high-quality work.

C6 Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in all tasks.

C7 Experience of Microsoft Office packages and strong technical understanding, with the ability to quickly develop new skills when using new software, IT, and equipment.

 

Desirable:

D1 Ability to supervise staff and volunteers, where appropriate.

 

Experience 

Essential:

E1 Extensive experience in a similar role involving the use of social and digital media and events promotion.

E2 Experience in video creation and editing for long-form content, as well as producing reactive content quickly.

E3 Experience of collaborating and prioritising work to deliver an efficient service.

E4 Experience in monitoring and taking responsibility for managing logistics, marketing, and communications for events.

E5 Experience delivering presentations and training sessions.

 

Desirable: 

F1 Ability to use/experience of university software such as t4.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £26,338 - £30,805 per annum pro rata.

 

This post is part-time (17.5 hours per week), and open ended.
