Job description
Job Purpose
To develop and implement effective targeted marketing strategies and an operational plan for the Adam Smith Business School that meets wider School objectives. Through liaison with University Services, provide guidance and assistance to the School on marketing, insights and visual identity policies, drawing on marketing expertise. To oversee the provision of marketing services to key internal clients including the School Executive and degree programme convenors (academic and administrative staff), undertaking the planning and delivery of all marketing activity for the School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Lead on the development of tailored School marketing strategies and implement marketing and student recruitment initiatives which adhere to University brand.
2. Deliver a complete marketing programme for the School across learning and teaching, corporate connections, research and knowledge exchange, prioritising postgraduate taught marketing and conversion activities and to ensure all activity is achieved within the agreed budget.
3. Monitor effectiveness of marketing tools and techniques including evaluation of advertising and promotional activity to ensure cost effective use of marketing budgets.
4. Work with colleagues across the school and college to provide marketing services, advice and support ensuring marketing activity is strategic, consistent and supported by market intelligence.
5. Lead on the development, implementation and monitoring on the effectiveness of the University brand guidelines within the school.
6. Oversee the delivery of the School's market research requirements, providing key insights, analysing and interpreting data to identify patterns and solutions, for consumption by key stakeholders.
7. Line management of Student Recruitment and Marketing Officer, setting priorities, managing workloads and creative processes and approving deliverables along with responsibility for the individual's regular review and development.
8. Support the School's diversification strategy and student recruitment conversion activity along with managing the development and overseeing the delivery of marketing plans for new postgraduate taught programmes.
9. Manage School participation in School-specific rankings and league tables. Liaise with staff across the School and the University to manage data collection and identify ways to improve performance.

Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar role(s). Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Excellent understanding of Customer Relationship Management techniques; digital/new media marketing strategies.
A3 Detailed knowledge of marketing theory and best practice.
A4 Excellent working knowledge of web content management systems (preferably t4 CMS) and html.
Desirable
B1 Chartered Institute of Marketing qualification or similar.
B2 Knowledge of project management techniques.
B3 Knowledge of University or Higher Education procedures, such as policies, processes and procedures specifically in relation to student recruitment.
Essential
C1 Proven marketing research skills, of collating and evaluating evidence to provide insight into trends and user needs across learning and teaching programmes, corporate connections, and research and knowledge exchange.
C2 Proven creative marketing skills - including copywriting skills, development of creative campaign solutions etc.
C3 Technical marketing skills - including print management; T4 or other web content management skills, management of design/agency relationships etc.
C4 Ability to take marketing briefs from internal clients and deliver high quality marketing campaigns that achieve the desired results.
C5 Ability to track the effectiveness of marketing activity.
C6 Strong organisational and interpersonal skills; good analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work under pressure and tight timescales; and an ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously.
C7 Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing.
C8 Budget management.
C9 Strong presentation skills.
C10 Sensitivity to the needs of students and other individuals from different cultures.
C11 Able to work effectively as a member of the team and to develop effective working relationships with academic and non-academic colleagues and external partners/contacts.
Experience
Essential
E1 Significant relevant experience in a similar role.
E2 Experience of planning, implementing and assessing effectiveness of marketing programmes.
E3 Experience of managing and/or undertaking market research projects.
E4 Substantial web publishing experience in a marketing context.
Desirable
F1 Experience of either the Higher Education sector or with products focused on the youth market.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,482 - £37,174 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term. This post is to cover maternity leave for up to 12 months or until the substantive postholder returns.
