Job description
Job Purpose
To lead on the design, delivery, and evaluation of a leadership development programme for funded project leaders, to support delivery of a large-scale multi-partner project: ‘InFrame’ (Inclusive Framework for Research Leadership) working in partnership with the Universities of Edinburgh and St Andrews. Design, pilot, communicate, evaluate, and embed a Leadership Development programme for funded project leaders drawn from across different academic, researcher and research professional roles. The programme will support the emergence and success of new project leaders across the three partner universities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Collaborate within a team of three InFrame Leadership Developers across the three project partners (Glasgow-Edinburgh-St Andrews) to devise an innovative and inclusive, career stage appropriate leadership development programme for funded project leaders.
2. Oversee successful delivery of the programme in alignment with the themes and underpinning principles of the delivery framework (EDI, collaboration, positive recognition of good practice). Priorities will include leading on a positive recognition campaign, the design and implementation of workshops for Culture Catalyst funding panels and for new project leaders and providing analysis and advice to the InFrame Community Knowledge Manager and Project Manager.
3. Build strong relationships with key people, teams, communities and networks across the three partner universities, the Project Team, and key external partners to disseminate new workshop designs and to support enhancement of organisational approaches to leadership development.
4. Design and embed an approach to programme evaluation to enable GDPR compliant data gathering to inform annual reporting, impact analysis, and to meet all external reporting requirements, co-creating with InFrame Leadership Developers.
5. Working with a range of stakeholders both internally & externally to contribute collaboratively and authoritatively to the development and enhancement of university policies, guidance, digital resources and other materials related to leadership development, to support project outcomes to be embedded into practice.
6. Contribute to the collaborative working processes and systems of the InFrame Team and the Research Culture and Researcher Development portfolios at each partner university (with a primary focus on the University of Glasgow).
7. Contribute to a comprehensive internal and external communications strategy led by the Project Manager for InFrame (via Project Board Meetings, digital materials, events, and other creative and social media) to ensure awareness of projects and progress. Provide comprehensive details of the leadership development programme, calendar of events, and feedback.
8. Apply collegiate and collaborative working strategies to develop cohesive working relationships as a member of a cross-university matrix team. Demonstrate professional development of self and others by building team capability in leadership development in adherence with project aims, and delivery objectives.
9. Develop and maintain strong personal internal and external networks to access intelligence and good practice from across the higher education sector, and where relevant, more broadly. Proactively analyse and provide intelligence to the project team as a credible advisor.
10. Ensure that the project’s mission is shared, understood and supported through the leadership development offer, staying appraised of relevant communication materials, project progress and supporting information.
11. Lead on all Leadership Development status reports, ensuring information for all stakeholders and project management reporting is provided and up to date.
12. Work as an engaged team player who is cooperative, communicative and builds trust and the support of colleagues and partners through respectful collaboration and building consensus.
13. Proactively identify, undertake, and share opportunities for ongoing professional development, both for yourself and for colleagues in the Project Team.
14. Represent and champion the work and interests of the Project at meetings, external groups, conferences, and seminars to keep up to date with developments and gain and share across the team information/knowledge of best working practices in the higher education context.
15. Perform other duties as requested, consistent with the grade level of the position and agreeing appropriate prioritisation of work with line management or other relevant stakeholders as needed.
16. Maintain membership of, and where appropriate leadership of, university groups, networks, and other governance structures, as appropriate.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4) or equivalent, (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related roles. Or: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different role(s).
A2 An authoritative and up to date understanding of leadership development within the Higher Education and/or business landscape.
A3 Sound knowledge of theories on adult learning, including virtual learning environments and online training.
Desirable:
B1 PhD.
B2 Understanding of the role of technology in supporting learning.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Excellent communication and influencing skills, both written and oral.
C2 Excellent IT and relevant software skills and the ability to use them effectively in support of work activities.
C3 Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective relationships with staff and services both inside and outside the University, in particular to support development of researchers.
C4 The organisational, planning and administrative ability to deliver and report on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
C5 Ability to deal professionally, sensitively and tactfully with staff and data, working in an ethical and legal manner in accordance with all relevant legislation (including GDPR).
C6 Ability to work collaboratively and responsibly as a member of various teams.
C7 Excellent facilitation skills with an ability to create and deliver bespoke training to a wide range of audiences that support the development of others and the objectives of the programme.
C8 Self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
C9 Influencing skills when working with others to implement service improvements.
C10 Demonstratable skills in developing leadership training materials, including evaluations, to a wide range of participants.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Significant experience of training programme development and delivery, including consultation with key stakeholders and effective use of evidence to inform the programme.
E2 Design and delivery of a Leadership development programme to increase awareness of new policy, initiatives or developments and / or influence organisational change.
E3 Experience of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
E4 Experience of developing, piloting and evaluating development programmes in the sphere of professional and career development.
E5 Experience of managing data and producing reports (e.g. to funders and management).
Desirable:
F1 Experience of developing online learning resources.
F2 Experience of working with researchers and university professional staff across a wide range of disciplines.
F3 Experience of working with University committees, senior academics and managers.

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and fixed term to 31 August 2026.
