This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Living Lab PPIE & Qualitative Research Facilitator to join the team. The post holder will lead and support high-quality Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement activities across Living Laboratory projects.

 

You will support qualitative research and outreach activities to better understand community healthcare concerns, working closely with researchers, clinicians, and community partners. In addition, you will act as a key liaison between research teams, patients, carers, and public contributors to support inclusive and respectful dialogue and partnership.

Job Purpose 

The PPIE Research and Outreach Facilitator will lead and support high-quality Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement activities across Living Laboratory projects. The postholder will coordinate and deliver the Digital Health Validation Laboratory’s PPIE activities and will also support qualitative research and outreach activities to better understand community healthcare concerns, working closely with researchers, clinicians, and community partners

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Working with the Living Laboratory Programme Director, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate PPIE and qualitative research activities across the Living Laboratory programme including coordination between researchers and key stakeholders and partners involved in planning and delivery of activities, ensuring alignment with funder and University policies on involvement and engagement.

2. Lead the design, planning, facilitation, and reporting of engagement activities—including focus groups, workshops, and events (both online and in person)—to gather insights from clinical staff, patients, and the public, ensuring outputs are distilled and aligned with defined research and programme objectives.

3. Act as a key liaison between research teams, patients, carers, and public contributors to support inclusive and respectful dialogue and partnership.

4. Contribute to qualitative research activities, including developing interview guides, conducting interviews or focus groups, data analysis, and reporting findings in line with ethical and methodological standards.

5. Develop outreach strategies and communication materials tailored to a range of stakeholders, including underrepresented groups, to promote accessibility and sustained engagement.

6. Monitor and evaluate PPIE processes and impact, maintaining accurate records, managing feedback, and producing reports for funders, ethics committees, and institutional stakeholders.

7. Support capacity building in PPIE across the College, including developing training resources, offering advice on best practices, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

8. Engage with relevant internal and external networks, including local communities, NHS partners, and third sector organisations to promote collaborative and inclusive research practices.

9. Undertake continuing professional development and contribute to a culture of learning and improvement within the research centre and wider University.

10. Maintain a strong and current working knowledge of developments and national priorities regarding PPIE and communications and inform colleagues across the University of Glasgow research community.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience    

 

Knowledge/Qualifications   

Essential 

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 4), or equivalent in a subject discipline relevant to the College of MVLS. and experience of personal development in a similar or related role.

A2 Knowledge of PPIE concepts, standards and initiatives relevant to UK

A3 Knowledge of the regulatory framework governing research involving humans.

A4 Understanding of UK, EU and International data protection legislation.

 

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of research legislation including the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations, ICH Good Clinical Practice, Mental Capacity Act

B2 Awareness of the aspirations of precision medicine and the importance of novel digital health products towards that endeavour

 

Skills

Essential:

Experience

Essential:

E1 Successfully delivering PPIE activities.

E2 Practical experience of facilitating and managing focus groups

E3 Developing, implementing, delivering strategy and reporting on a strategy to meet set objectives.

E4 Practical experience of leading engagement activities with a focus on expertise sharing and capacity building.

E5 Engaging and working with the research teams and ensuring delivery of projects to achieve key targets.

E6 Providing high calibre professional services within a complex multi- stakeholder profile context.

 

Desirable:

F1 Familiarity with the Higher Education environment and supporting the work of academics.

F2 Experience of working in a healthcare or clinical research setting

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
