Job Purpose

 

Reporting to the Marketing Officer this role is open to candidates with a love of all things social media and who have demonstrable experience of using a variety of social channels in a professional capacity. The postholder will work within the busy University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School’s professional services team, helping to develop our social media profile and portfolio and contributing to a range of digital outputs and campaigns to grow the Business School’s social branding and reach. This will include the production of video and multimedia rich content.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Manage the Adam Smith Business School’s presence on social networking sites including (but not exhaustive) Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Redbook, Blue Sky, TikTok, YouTube and other similar community sites, and filtering content into social applications as needed:

- Develop and produce content for audio/live streaming channels – developing these channels to their full potential.

- Monitor and manage the various social media accounts across the Business School (using a social media management/ analytics platform) to provide a consistent voice for all communications and ensure they operate in accordance with the overarching University social media guidelines.

- Work together with colleagues across the wider School and others as and when determined, to create, manage and promote social media channels to fit with Business School objectives and continue to build a strong online brand. - Provide support in the management of international Adam Smith Business School accounts such as Weibo and help in the development of other country-specific social media presence according to the priorities of the Business School.

 

2. Work with internal and external vendors to support the production of videos and organise video shoots and editorial schedules. This includes generating School specific content and assisting in post-production to review footage to ensure all videos adhere to University brand guidelines. Produce (from original concept to video editing) engaging video content to be published on various Business School social channels including YouTube, Instagram, etc.

 

3. Keep up to date with and monitor trends in social media tools and applications and recommend new channels for the Business School.

 

4. Work with the Marketing Officer and Communications Manager to devise creative social media campaigns that engage with the Business School’s online audiences including our current and prospective students, alumni and other stakeholders including supporting recruitment marketing activity and communicating the School’s research priorities.

 

5. Support colleagues across the School with support from the central Social Media team with social media guidance to ensure they meet their specific objectives but also that activity feeds into the over-arching social media objectives of the University.

 

6. Supervision of staff. Supervise the School’s digital marketing assistant (Chinese language) delegating and allocating work, monitoring progress and performance as appropriate. Determine short-term priorities for the post; planning and scheduling work activities for weeks ahead to ensure operational efficiency.

 

7. Keep up-to-date with best practice in the higher education sector - in Scotland, the UK and internationally.

 

8. Undertake such other duties related to this post as may be prescribed from time to time which are commensurate with the level of responsibility of the role.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent

A2 Excellent understanding of social media landscape and social media trends (including understanding of latest technologies)

A3 In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Youtube, X, Instagram, etc.) and how they can be deployed in different scenarios

A4 Knowledge or understanding of using social analytics tools to schedule communications as well as provide detailed social media reports

 

Desirable

B1 Knowledge of higher education sector in general

B2 Knowledge of the University of Glasgow

B3 Relevant degree or professional qualification

E1 Experience in a similar role involving the use of social and digital media either as a full time occupation or as a significant part of a relevant role

E4 Experience of video creation and editing

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Salary will be Grade 5, £27,319 - £31,236 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months.
