Job description

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor/Lecturer full-time to be based in Singapore. Representing the University of Glasgow (UofG), through the University of Glasgow Singapore (UGS), you will make a significant contribution to the leadership, management and provision of teaching, primarily in the BSc (Honours) in Nursing programme, delivered in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). While the primary focus will be at undergraduate level, you will also be expected to make a significant contribution to the development and provision of postgraduate teaching opportunities in Singapore. The successful candidate may be expected to contribute to postgraduate supervision, including doctoral supervision where the appointee holds a PhD. You will contribute to the strategic development of scholarship and the achievement of the School of Medicine Dentistry & Nursing (SoMDN) and the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) objectives, in relation to national and international excellence in the delivery of learning, teaching and student experience.

 

Job Purpose

To make a significant contribution to the leadership, management and delivery of teaching, within the BSc (Honours) in Nursing Programme, delivered in collaboration with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). The postholder will primarily focus on undergraduate teaching, while also contributing to the development and delivery of postgraduate teaching opportunities in Singapore. The roles include academic leadership, curriculum development, quality assurance, and student support, all in the context of maintaining and enhancing the strategic partnership between SIT and the University of Glasgow.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To maintain a strong working relationship with colleagues at SIT and UGS, to support and enhance the collaborative delivery of programmes.

2. To make significant contributions towards strategic planning, management and leadership for teaching, learning and assessment activities at UGS in collaboration with SIT colleagues.

3. Lead the design and delivery of innovative learning, teaching and assessment activities, strategies and materials, predominantly for the joint programme, in collaboration with SIT, while contributing to the wider work of the Nursing & Health Care School where appropriate.

4. To engage with subject-based pedagogy and a range of activities including planning, delivering and evaluating scholarship initiatives to support excellence in learning and teaching in collaboration with colleagues from SIT and from Glasgow, and maintain and enhance a national and international scholarship profile and reputation in this area.

5. To supervise, support and assess student dissertations and projects at undergraduate and postgraduate level and where applicable, PhD research projects.

6. To undertake a range of administrative responsibilities and duties as delegated by the Programme Director (PD) and/or Head of the Nursing & Health Care School to ensure effective programme delivery, projects and School.

7. Play a key role in quality assurance and enhancement activities, including curriculum review and programme re-accreditation with the University (Glasgow and SIT) and relevant professional bodies to ensure high quality education provision is maintained. The appointee will be expected to seek opportunities for external examining.

8. To lead and actively participate in team / group meetings, seminars and workshops to enhance wider knowledge, outputs and the research and scholarship culture of the School, and to promote interaction and communication between staff and students to enhance learning, teaching and student experience.

9. To provide pastoral support for students, recognising diverse needs and referring to additional support / guidance as appropriate.

10. To engage, lead and promote the use of technology to support and enhance learning and teaching.

11. Where appropriate, to secure external funding to support initiatives within the University’s guidelines to develop and deliver learning and teaching initiatives and educational evaluation/research.

12. To engage in professional development activities as appropriate.

13. To make a leading contribution to outreach and recruitment activities of the School.

14. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changing Glasgow 2025.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1. Current registration with a national regulatory body for nursing.

A2. Good first degree and relevant Masters degree.

A3. Recognised teaching qualification.

A4. Eligibility to work in Singapore, with the ability to comply with local employment and regulatory permissions including Singapore Nursing Board (SNB) registration, and to undertake periodic visits to Glasgow as required.

 

Desirable:

B1. PhD (Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 or equivalent) in related discipline with a growing reputation in research (or nearing completion of a PhD).

 

Skills

 

Essential:

C1. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear and confident presentations and to articulate complex concepts effectively.

C2. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work collegiately within a team environment.

C3. Demonstrated empathy and understanding in supporting diverse students groups, including those experiencing problems, either academically or personally.

C4. Strong leadership, organisational, and administrative skills.

C5. Ability to work independently and demonstrate workload and time management skills effectively to deliver high-quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.

C6. High degree of creativity and self-motivation.

C7. Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills to promote student and staff engagement.

C8. Proficient IT skills that support the efficient delivery and organisation of teaching and assessment.

C9. Experience in developing innovative teaching, learning and assessment approaches, including the use of online learning.

C10. Evidence of engagement and involvement in the design, development and management of education and training in an area of immediate relevance to the post.

 

Experience

 

Essential:

E1. Substantial breadth and depth of clinical experience in subject area (minimum of three years of full-time post-registration clinical nursing experience).

E2. Significant experience in teaching, supervision and assessment within adult nursing education in higher education settings, including online delivery.

E3. Proven track record of high-quality curriculum development.

E4. Experience in the development, delivery and administration of courses and programmes of study.

 

Desirable:

F1. Experience in transnational education or teaching international students.

F2. Established profile of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be SGD 100,748 - SGD 132,110 per annum.

 

This post is full time and open ended.

 

This post is based at the SIT Punggol campus in Singapore and is subject to Singapore laws. From time to time, you may be required to work from a different location. There is a requirement to visit the UK for induction and personal development activities as appropriate.
