Job Purpose
Design, develop, implement and maintain business information systems which support and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the University’s administrative processes. Analyse business requirements, current business processes and future needs in order to develop appropriate technical solutions.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Design, develop and test new systems, producing detailed design specifications and documentation, and ensuring at all stages that the system delivered will meet the University’s requirements.
2. Implement and support systems, which can be developed in-house or bought in as third party packages.
3. Provide continued support, maintenance, monitoring and enhancements to existing systems in order to ensure that services are consistently available at all times and meet the evolving needs of the University.
4. Provide system support by resolving day-to-day technical and business issues. Respond to support calls from students and staff using the support ticketing system.
5. Prepare and deliver user training and familiarisation sessions for new and existing systems.
6. Liaise with colleagues to ensure compliance with technical and professional standards.
7. Attend training courses and access training materials as appropriate, to ensure continued familiarisation with new technologies and keep skills up-to-date.
8. Analyse business requirements, current business processes and future needs in order to develop appropriate technical solutions.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge, Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s) OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles.
Detailed knowledge of the following:
A2 Web Application Development: C#, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS and JSON.
A3 Development tools: code repositories (GitHub), IDEs (Visual Studio), continuous integration (Jenkins).
A4 RDBMS: SQL Server Enterprise.
A5 Security technologies: e.g. TLS, MFA, and security standards such as OWASP.
A6 Agile development practices: e.g. story point estimation, SCRUM ceremonies.
A7 Developing and implementing Web Services.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge of Microsoft 365 development, i.e. SharePoint (SPFx), Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, PowerFx) PowerBI, PowerShell.
B2 An understanding of FOI and DPA legislation.
B3 Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements including WCAG standard.
B4 Knowledge of Cloud Computing, i.e, Microsoft Azure or AWS.
B5 Front-end frameworks: e.g. Node.js, Vue.js, React, TypeScript.
B6 Web Application Development: ASP.NET MVC, LINQ, IIS.

Essential:
C1 Excellent analytical problem-solving skills.
C2 Ability to work within and contribute to a dynamic team.
C3 Ability to adapt to a varied development environment and learn multiple languages and technologies as required by the job.
C4 Ability to interact positively with a variety of university staff and students with differing IT knowledge.

C6 Good interpersonal skills.
C7 A good understanding of project management principles.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience in systems analysis and application development participating in all stages of the system development life cycle.
E2 This experience should have been gained using the technologies as specified in the ‘Knowledge/Qualifications’ section above.
Desirable:
F1 Broad range of professional experience supporting and maintaining large corporate business systems
F2 Experience working within multi-skilled agile project teams.
F3 Experience of application development using SharePoint or Microsoft 365 Power Platform.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
