Job Purpose

 

To provide high quality, efficient Stores and Operational support for research and teaching in the College of Science and Engineering.

 

The post holder facilitates all operational aspects of stores across the schools within the college. Ordering and processing goods received, coordinating lab consumables, gas cylinder stocks and specialist waste management.

 

To carry out the duties assigned to the College Operational team.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Support planning and organisation of day-to-day operational aspects of the Stores Team. Prioritise and carry out/distribute workload across the operational team and sequencing work patterns to meet the wide range of demands on the role.

2. Analyse and interpret the consumable requirements of the schools to ensure an efficient service. Anticipating demands and ensuring sufficient stock is held. Work to continually improve the services offered to the college.

3. Ordering goods and services, managing the receipt of goods and working closely with the college finance hub. Use university accounting software Agresso and where appropriate liaise with suppliers and procurement.

4. Receive delivery of a wide range of chemicals, specialist equipment, teaching laboratory stock and consumables. Ensure safe handling, storage and distribution.

5. Work with the Facilities Co-ordinators and Technical Services Managers on a day-to-day basis to ensure operational engagement in local systems to further support the efficient running of School facilities. In the absence of the line manager, make decisions on routine matters.

6. Provide an accurate, secure and reliable parcel distribution and delivery service.

7. Co-ordinate the disposal of equipment using University waste streams for electronic and electrical equipment, cardboard packaging, glassware, pallets and general waste.

8. Attend and contribute to weekly meetings to plan working week, schedule works and prioritise job requests.

9. Receive and respond to enquiries seeking information, directions and advice; judging when to refer to others to provide the most effective service.

10. Engage in self-development in line with the P&DR process and in the university of Glasgow behavioural framework.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

 

Knowledge/Qualifications 

 

Essential

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role OR

Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 5 or 6 in English and Mathematics [National 5 or 6 Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2 or 3] or equivalent, and some experience of working in a similar role

A2 Good knowledge of the Health and Safety legislation that is applicable to the role

A3 Working knowledge of logistic management systems, equipment, processes and procedures

 

Desirable

B1 Detailed knowledge of relevant systems, equipment, processes and procedures relative to the role and the quality standards and outputs required

B2 Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Outlook

B3 Knowledge of Agresso accounting software or similar

B4 First Aid Certificate

 

Skills 

 

Essential

C1 Competent numeracy and literacy skills

C2 Competent written and/or oral skills; ability to exchange basic information effectively

C3 Ability to plan or schedule workdays ahead

C4 Ability to give clear instructions and guide other staff, where appropriate

C5 Clean UK driving licence (categories B and D1), held for a minimum of 2 years

C6 Willingness to engage with training to ensure continual professional development

C7 Ability to prioritise work for self and understand colleagues’ priorities

 

Desirable

D1 Good reporting and record keeping

D2 Ability to operate a range of apparatus for the lifting and moving of equipment and goods

 

Experience 

 

Essential

E1 Relevant work experience

E2 Experience in manual handling

E3 Experience with providing public facing activities or providing a service

 

Desirable

F1 Experience of working gained in a University/HE environment or in a storage facility

F2 Experience of training staff in the safe use of equipment

F3 Experience of driving minibuses and transportation of students and staff

F4 Experience of Health and Safety regulations applicable to the role

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Salary will be Grade 4, £25,804 - £27,319 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
