Job description

Please note that this vacancy is only open to current University of Glasgow employees.

Job Purpose

The College of Social Sciences Student Experience Team (SET) supports the entire student journey, delivering a broad range of provision to enhance students’ academic, personal, and professional development. The SET Transitions & Tutor Coordinator is central to the delivery of this support, managing two core functions: the management of our student tutor team who deliver online and face-to-face support to students; and support for students transitioning into and through university.

In terms of transitions, the postholder will coordinate core transitions and retention activity, including the On Track early intervention programme and the Pathfinder extended transitions programme. They will contribute to strategic curriculum reform and progression initiatives, while enhancing delivery capacity through direct student-facing provision. The successful candidate will have a strong professional interest in supporting the success of others and will have experience of coaching, mentoring, or supporting learning in an educational or professional development environment. The postholder will also be responsible for the recruitment, training and management of our SET student tutor team. These tutors support the delivery of our online and face-to-face student provision, enabling scalable embedded support in academic literacies, employability, and transitions. The postholder will have experience of managing and developing teams.

Success in this role will require effective and efficient collaboration across organisational and professional boundaries working with academics, professional services staff, and students in partnership, and we are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of developing and maintaining effective working relationships across complex organisations. The role holder will report directly to the SET Transitions Lead and indirectly to the SET Student Learning and SET Skills and Employability Leads. They will also work collaboratively on a range of projects with the rest of the Student Experience Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.  Recruit and train the SET Tutor Team to ensure effective delivery of embedded student-facing provision across academic literacies, employability, and transitions.

2.  Manage the ongoing professional development and support of our SET Tutor Team to ensure consistent delivery across all CSET student-facing provision.

3.  Coordinate and develop the On Track early intervention programme.

4.  Support the development and expansion of the Pathfinder extended transitions programme, ensuring alignment with curriculum enhancement and reforms to Advising and student progression.

5.  Deliver direct student-facing support, particularly within the Transitions strand, to enhance capacity and meet strategic targets.

6.  Collaborate with CSET colleagues to evaluate and expand provision, addressing barriers to participation and increasing engagement of underrepresented groups.

7.  Utilise data insights, student analytics, and sector best practice to inform the development of new transitions and tutor-led activity.

8.  Engage in continuing professional development activities and keep up to date with enhancements to student experience.

9.  Maintain effective relationships across Schools and services to promote good practice, foster inclusion, and avoid duplication of activity.

10.  Contribute to cross-team projects and wider Student Experience Team initiatives as required.
