Job Purpose

To make key contributions to the success of Professor Poppy Lamberton’s Wellcome award ‘Identifying drivers of schistosomiasis treatment failure and recommendations for treatment strategies (DRIVERS)’ by providing comprehensive high-level, professional research and administrative support.  You will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management and coordination of the research group and project arms, providing project and budget management across research partners.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.      With input from the Principal Investigator (PI) and lead Co-Investigators (Coulibaly, Kayuni, Prada), lead the day-to-day management of the research project, providing comprehensive research project management support including (but not limited to) planning and monitoring of progress against targets for delivery of outputs and outcomes, travel booking, ordering and shipments, financial management, reporting and co-ordination of academic partners and collaborators, including liaising for collaboration agreements, Material Transfer Agreements, Data Sharing Agreements.

2.      Use professional judgement and expertise to manage budgets; monitoring spending and taking remedial action should budget limits be exceeded, assessing personnel, equipment and other resource requirements, liaising with teams across university functions as needed to discuss new and existing budgets and posts within the group.

3.      Co-manage the ethics and information governance activities, including Nagoya Protocol compliance, required for the project including co-preparation of documents for regulatory submission, management of internal review, submission to regulatory authorities, amendments, and overseeing provision of annual reports to Research Ethics Committees.

4.      Responsible for the co-development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), either by writing them directly or by overseeing their creation when the content falls under the responsibility of others in the wider project team.

5.      Travel overseas to provide high level support to project team, further cementing and building upon relationships with partners (up to 2 months per year overseas).

6.      Represent the PI and wider research group: participating in project meetings, offering advice, and liaising with external stakeholders.

7.      To proactively engage and develop working partnerships with colleagues across College and University Services and within the Institutions of the project partners as needed.

8.      Organize and, when necessary, chair meetings and committees. Coordinate conference calls, present project updates, take and distribute minutes, action points, and agendas, and follow up on action points with the relevant team members.

9.      Undertake any other reasonable and relevant duties as directed by the Principal Investigator.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1. Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, 10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, Or: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles.

A2.  Recognized Project Management qualification such as Prince2 or Agile, and ability to adapt techniques and methodology to effectively support international research.

 

Desirable: 

B1   Ability to communicate in French, both orally and in writing

B2   Have an understanding of the research concepts of the project to a level which permits informed decision making and of Neglected Tropical Diseases and WHO priorities.

C4. Skilled in influencing, negotiating, and persuading contributors across a large and complex organisation.

C5. Strong track record of monitoring budgets and preparing forecasts/expenditure reports.

C6. Proven ability to build and manage relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior leaders.

C7. Resilient, adaptable and able to maintain steady progress even even in dynamic situations.

C8. Proven ability to work on own initiative, establish priorities and to multi-task to deadlines.

C9. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in an ever-changing environment.

C10. Ability to lead and motivate a team, ensuring that everyone works cohesively toward project goals.

C11. Advanced computer skills particularly Microsoft Office applications, and ability to interrogate financial management systems, such as Agresso

C12. Skilled in coordinating and facilitating project team meetings, including documenting key decisions, tracking action items, and ensuring timely follow-up to support project progress.

 

Experience

Essential

E1. Significant project or programme management experience, demonstrating capability of co-ordinating complex large-scale research projects, that impact across multiple organisations and geographical locations.

E2. Experience of managing high-value budgets and providing financial reporting advice to budget holder.

E3. Previous line management/ team management experience, including experience influencing the activities of people not in direct line management

E4. Significant experience of the systems and processes necessary to underpin successful research project management.

E5. A track record of successfully managing projects with partners based in LMICs in your previous or current employment,

 

Desirable

F1. Experience of liaising directly with funders.

This post is part-time (21 hours per week), and open ended with funding available up until 30th September 2030 in the first instance.
