Job Purpose
As a Senior Business Analyst in the Digital Experience Team in Information Services, you will play a key role in bridging the gap between business needs and technological solutions, with a particular focus on Information Security. Working across multiple departments and teams, you will gather and analyse business requirements, identify opportunities to strengthen security, and support the University in implementing solutions that protect its people, systems, and intellectual property. Reporting to the Head of Digital Experience, you will collaborate closely with colleagues in the Information Security Team to lead system discovery, develop a clear understanding of user requirements, conduct gap analyses, complete data mapping activities, and capture business processes to inform solution design and business case documentation for the implementation phase of the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
Lead engagement with business stakeholders to understand processes, challenges, and information security requirements, building strong working relationships based on open communication and trust.
Lead the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business needs through interviews, workshops, and surveys, ensuring outputs meet information security standards and support organisational strategic information security objectives.
Take responsibility for the mapping and assessment of current business processes and systems, identify gaps and pain points, and use findings from gap analyses to propose optimised processes and improvements enabled by new technologies to embed cyber controls.
Translate business requirements into clear specifications for both technical and non-technical teams, supporting the design and implementation of cyber security controls and gaining buy in of their delivery with senior stakeholders.
Produce high-quality documentation, including business requirements, functional specifications, and supporting materials, to inform business cases and solution design.
Work in partnership with the Project Manager to support planning, design, implementation, and benefits realisation activities within the Information Security Controls Programme of Work.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s). A2 Excellent working knowledge and understanding of business analysis tools and techniques. A3 Knowledge of data mapping techniques, data quality assurance techniques, and data governance principles.
A4 Knowledge of and exposure to Information Security Controls, Resilience Controls or Compliance.
Desirable: B1 Familiarity with developing robust and successful business cases. B2 Certification in Business Analysis.
B3 Familiarity with CIS/NIST Controls and ISO 27001 Framework.
Skills Essential: C1 Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. C2 Highly effective interpersonal skills, enabling the establishment of effective working relationships with the ability to facilitate and employ a robust, flexible and resilient approach with different stakeholders. C3 Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality.
C4 Excellent organisational skills, demonstrating the ability to plan, progress, and prioritise work activities effectively. C5 Specialist analytical and complex problem-solving capability, including process and systems analysis. C6 Highly proficient in capturing and managing business requirements. C7 Able to explain technical concepts and analyses clearly and translate business objectives into actionable specifications.
C8 Ability to apply specialist skills to identify risks, dependencies and blockers using a range of tools to manage and mitigate the impact of these.
**Desirable: **D1 Development of business cases.
Experience
Essential: E1 Practical experience in business analysis, utilising business analysis methods to document data structures and business processes and defining business requirements to inform business cases. E2 Practical experience of stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders throughout the development cycle and beyond. E3 Experience in translating business process information and requirements (as-is) to conceptualise the information as part of a business case.
E4 Experience of producing analytical reports to track project and programme progress for a senior audience.
**Desirable: **F1 Experience of base case development. F2 Familiarity with a Higher Education environment. F3 Experience of working in an Agile project management environment.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 8, £50,253 - £58,225 per annum.
This post is full time and fixed term for up to 24 months from the agreed start date
