Job description
Job Purpose
The SRTP Academy Coordinator leads on the delivery of an InFrame Project (https://sway.cloud.microsoft/2puEnGlT7s7O9KXG), creating a community where research technicians feel valued and supported, challenging institutional hierarchies, and redefining research leadership.
The post-holder will be responsible for identifying demand and leading on the design and delivery of workshops, networking events, and training modules for a cohort of Scottish technicians, creating immediate opportunities for professional growth while also generating long-term cultural change. Key outputs will include a visible network of research technicians, case studies highlighting technician contributions, and practical recommendations for embedding technician recognition and support into institutional policies, including a common guidance document.
SRTP Academy aims to improve individual careers and build a more inclusive and collaborative research culture, where all contributions are valued and celebrated. The post-holder will coordinate the delivery, scheduling, and promotion of the Academy’s activities, manage participant registration, and gather feedback from both participants and the wider community.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and deliver a comprehensive programme of training, workshops, and networking events, both online and in-person, hosted by the three InFrame partner institutions (Glasgow, Edinburgh, and St Andrews).
2. Collaborate with subject matter experts to design tailored content and, where necessary, deliver training directly.
3. Ensure all sessions are scheduled, resourced, and communicated effectively.
4. Develop and implement advertising strategies to promote the SRTP Academy to target audiences across Scotland.
5. Manage participant registrations, payment processes, and feedback mechanisms, and support basic budget tracking to ensure efficient use of project resources.
6. Coordinate campaigns to raise awareness of the Academy’s activities and objectives.
7. Gather and analyse participant feedback and training statistics to assess programme effectiveness.
8. Use feedback and data insights to drive continuous improvement in Academy offerings, enhancing quality, relevance, and long-term impact.
9. Produce reports to demonstrate progress and impact.
10. Build and maintain strong relationships with technical staff, project leads, and collaborators across academia, government, and industry.
11. Engage proactively with external training networks, including UK ITSS and associated groups.
12. Identify training needs and develop innovative solutions to address them.
13. Contribute to the strategic direction of the Academy, adapting priorities in response to emerging institutional and sector-wide themes in research culture.
14. Stay updated on best practices in technical leadership through research, participation in discussion groups, and attendance at national conferences.
15. Any other duties assigned by the project lead.
