Job description
Job Purpose
Repository Team Leader (Enlighten Services) will ensure delivery of all operational aspects of the University of Glasgow’s open repositories, notably ‘Enlighten: Publications’, ‘Enlighten: Theses’, ‘Enlighten: Dissertations’, and ‘EdShare’, Glasgow’s open educational resources repository. The post holder’s oversight of these services and their adherence to quality research output description will support essential operational research functions at the institution and they will play a key role in contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the Team.
They will support the implementation of strategic goals and research exercises involving repository content and metadata, including within the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF) and within the wider open research ecosystem. The delivery of expert advice and guidance to key stakeholders on best sectoral practice will be required, as will the ability to make key operational decisions in support of the Enlighten services. In furtherance of the institutional desire for exceptional repository services, the post holder will also be expected to work closely with members of the adjacent Research Information Management (RIM) team and Archives & Special Collections (ASC), to ensure a coherent service offering to University users.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Recruiting, managing, and training Enlighten Team members to ensure effective service delivery and optimal user experience using available resources, developing and managing the performance of staff where necessary through relevant University policies.
2. Deliver specialist advice and guidance to academic/research staff relating to repository services, open access, relevant University policies, publishers’ policies, funders’ policies and copyright, while liaising with adjacent teams where necessary and while leading service excellence of the Enlighten Team in its handling common user enquiries.
3. Maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant open access requirements, publisher copyright policies, open access and scholarly communications environment, and related regulations to facilitate responses to high level enquiries.
4. Implementing, documenting, and maintaining effective quality control standards to ensure repository content is accurate, reliable, and added in a timely manner, so that academic staff and researchers receive the support they require.
5. Ensuring consistency in metadata entry is maintained and ensure quality control of metadata through clear procedures and mechanisms.
6. Lead the development and delivery of training in, and advocacy of, Enlighten repositories to academic staff, including the creation of high-quality training materials, and the facilitation of engaging one-to-one, group, and webinar sessions for academic staff.
7. Conducting and developing improved reporting to drive service enhancements, thereby assisting in the identification, recording, and monitoring of service peaks, and providing operational support for a consistent and effective service delivery.
8. As a member of senior research professional staff, assisting academic staff and providing authoritative advice in relation to text and non-textual outputs for inclusion in Enlighten repositories.
9. Liaising with Graduate School offices, to identify and agree support needs, and establish and manage systems and processes to effectively support digital theses deposit.
10. Identifying, consulting, and making recommendations on changes to internal processes and procedures, contributing to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, enhancing service delivery, whilst meeting internal and external expectations.
11. Representing the University at external events, networks, and committees relevant to the post, and engage in wider sectoral discussions on innovative practice.
12. Demonstrating commitment to continuous personal development and self-directed learning, including in the development of technical skills, knowledge, and understanding.
13. Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by the Enlighten Team.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in similar role(s). Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8, (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma), or equivalent and experience of personal development in a similar role.
A2 Detailed Knowledge of issues and challenges arising from the management of research outputs in the higher education sector.
A3 Demonstrable and detailed understanding of the role of repositories and the principles of open research, and open access more specifically.
A4 Demonstrable understanding of copyright legislation and licensing as it relates to research and academic publishing.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge and understanding of research information trends within UK HEIs.
B2 Previous experience of data curation, including maximising its value for wider dissemination.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Ability to work proactively and independently to prioritise, take appropriate initiative, and work without supervision.
C2 Able to maintain high standards of numerical and data accuracy, with attention to detail and professionalism.
C3 Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels, within both Professional Services and academic Colleges.
C4 Fluency with common office IT applications (e.g., MS Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and proficiency with indexing and abstracting databases (e.g. Scopus, Web of Science, DS Dimensions, etc.).
C5 Ability to use initiative and judgement to resolve operational problems independently.
C6 Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing environments, with a passion to train colleagues to meet service expectations.

Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience of generating and managing metadata, bibliographic data and/or of cataloguing.
E2 Experience of working with repository software, or other related solutions such as digital library platforms, scholarly publishing solutions, or current research information systems (CRISs).
E3 Experience of analysing, manipulating, and summarizing complex data for the purposes of reporting and operational intelligence.
E4 Experience of providing mentoring/training and a demonstrable commitment to personal development and efficacy.
E5 Experience of supervising or leading and managing a team and experience of motivating staff and managing performance.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of working in an open research environment
F2 Experience of supporting previous REF exercises.
F3 Experience of web editing and web content development and/or publishing.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours p/w) and open ended.
