Job description

Job Purpose:
To provide effective, efficient and confidential administrative support for MBChB disability provisions and progression activities. To foster a positive culture towards health conditions and disability within the Undergraduate Medical School, both on University campus and on clinical placement to ensure an inclusive learning environment. Work within the School’s Student Support Team to raise awareness of GMC Guidance, School policy and University support services for disabled learners.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To be the first point of contact for all students with Reasonable Adjustments to teaching or assessment.
2. To encourage students to seek Disability support timeously and to ensure adjustments are up to date.
3. To act as a key liaison point between the Medical School Student Support team and University’s Disability Services and Occupational Health Unit, ensuring that policy and procedures are aligned to undergraduate medical education, up to date and implemented.
4. To administer creation and distribution of Adjustment Passports to relevant students.
5. To co-ordinate the implementation of Reasonable Adjustments for all teaching sessions on campus.
6. To liaise with NHS placement sites to ensure Reasonable Adjustments are deliverable in a clinical setting and communicated in a timely manner.
7. To work in conjunction with the MBChB Assessment team to ensure co-ordination and implementation of Reasonable Adjustments for all assessments.
8. Administration of all Extenuating Circumstances submissions, in line with School requirements and University Policy.
9. To clerk meetings of the UG Medical School Extenuating Circumstances Committee, including follow up actions.
10. To administer and clerk student meetings following Board of Examiner outcomes, including follow up actions.
11. To administer and clerk annual meetings of the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing Progress Committee, including follow up actions.
12. To administer SoMDN submissions to the College of MVLS Appeals Committee, arranging panels, clerking Appeal Hearings, and follow up actions.
13. To advise MVLS Appeal panels on Appeal outcomes in line with MBChB, BDS or BN Regulations.
14. To maintain a database of MBChB repeat year students, in line with MBChB Regulations.
15. To keep a clear audit trail of decision-making for supporting disabled learners, to ensure appropriate steps have been taken to provide reasonable adjustments.
16. To collate and record statistics on Reasonable Adjustments, Progress and Appeal outcomes for annual review.
17. To resolve issues using initiative and judgement, escalating as appropriate.
18. To participate in on the day administration of OSCE assessments on campus and at local hospital sites.
19. Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Undergraduate Medical School Manager
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher/Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role OR ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role.
A2 Knowledge of student disability or welfare issues.
Desirable
B1 An appreciation of wider University and Higher Education issues and their impact on this role.
B2 Knowledge of the MBChB Curriculum.

Essential
E1 Some significant relevant experience in an education with qualifications listed in A1, or evidence of progression and development gained through more extensive relevant work experience without qualifications
E2 Experience in dealing with matters of a confidential nature
E3 Experience of clerking meetings and producing accurate notes of meetings.
Desirable
F1 Experience of a professional undergraduate programme within a Higher Education
establishment
F2 Knowledge of working with systems used within the University of Glasgow such as Moodle, MyCampus and T4 web publishing
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 5, £27,319 - £31,236 per annum.
