Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Operations Management (R&T Track)

The Subject of Management in the Adam Smith Business School, is seeking to appoint a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Operations Management (Research & Teaching Track). The post is full-time (35 hours p/w) and open-ended.
A teaching specialism in Project Management is essential for this post, at all levels.
Lecturer: (Grade 7/8) You will have, or be developing, a growing international research reputation that can enhance the research profile of the School/College. You will be expected to provide excellent teaching in operations/project management and create dynamic learning environments. At Grade 8, experience of curriculum design/development is also essential.
Senior Lecturer: (Grade 9) You will have an excellent established international research reputation and be expected to provide leadership in the Subject generally, and in research (e.g. grant applications). Significant experience of delivering excellent teaching in operations/project Management, and of creating dynamic learning environments is essential.At this level you will also have a proven ability to design, review and enhance learning, teaching and assessment programmes.

Job Purpose
To make a substantial and positive contribution to the strategic direction of the School/College through leading and contributing to research of international standard, high quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, securing research funding, and providing academic leadership and management within the School/College. To actively engage in relationships with external stakeholders that advance knowledge exchange, public understanding and outreach.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Undertake a leading role in the development and implementation of individual and/or joint research projects of international standard, participating actively in the development of College/School research strategy.
2. Act as principal investigator or project leader on major research projects in Operations Management, with a portfolio of research activity and publications of high quality and impact.
3. Take a lead in major funding bids and related activities, including Knowledge Exchange, which develop and sustain support for the candidate’s subject area and the recognised excellence of the University.
4. Through an established network of external stakeholders, increasingly influence public understanding and/or professional policy and practice aligned with the strategic priorities of the School/College/University. Disseminate research findings locally, nationally and internationally to enhance learning within the candidate’s subject area and represent the University externally.
5. Undertake academic management and leadership roles and responsibilities to ensure high quality course/programme administration, setting and monitoring standards and lead on the development of collegiality, policy and practice across research and teaching teams (beyond subject/school level).
6. Create and develop effective networks with students, staff across the University, and external stakeholders to oversee the embedding of key University priorities such as graduate attributes, professional requirements, work-related learning, transitions support, student mobility and quality enhancement within credit bearing and non-credit bearing activities.
7. Develop a strategic approach to embedding learning technologies across the Subject/School and College to support and enhance course/programme delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment within campus based, blended and online provision.
8. Lead the development of inclusive and innovative approaches to teaching, learning and assessment that recognise the needs of a diverse student cohort, taking appropriate responsibility for managing associated cultural changes and staff support and development.
9. Regularly attend and participate in appropriate activities to effectively contribute to Operations Management, through learned societies, professional bodies, broader review and editorial processes.
10. Supervise individual student projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level to ensure their effective development and assisting with difficulties e.g. learning support/problems.
11. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
12. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent in Operations Management or an allayed area.
A2: Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in Operations Management to develop appropriate research and teaching programmes/methodologies/learning support.
A3: Recognised expertise in Operations Management to develop new knowledge and understanding within the field.
A4: A teaching specialism in Project Management.
A5: Engagement with the current and future priorities of University/College/Service strategies, aims and ambitions.
Skills
Essential:
C1: Proven ability to plan and lead staff and efficiently deploy resources in support of major research and teaching activities.
C2: Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding.
C3: Ability to engage the interest and enthusiasm of students to inspire learning and to provide pastoral care to students in the subject area.
C4: Proven ability to design, review and enhance learning, teaching and assessment programmes.
C5: Ability to forge new and effective relationships with colleagues, internally and externally, to foster collaboration across the University and with colleagues in other institutions.
C6: Ability to demonstrate independent thought to generate original research and secure research income.
C7: Effective organisation skills to manage time and prioritise as appropriate research, teaching and administrative responsibilities.
Experience
Essential:
E1: Internationally recognised excellence and research reputation in Operations Management, including a substantial track record of published research of international standard compatible with enhancing the School’s submission to the REF.
E2: A research programme that focuses on improving the lives of individuals, communities, and/or society.
E3: A thorough understanding of, and track record in, contributing to broader academic leadership and management, and promoting collegiality, at School/Service/College level.
E4: Established track record of successfully securing funding for research projects in Operations Management.
E5: Significant teaching experience in Operations Management. Proven track record of developing and devising teaching programmes, techniques and methods.
E6: Track record of student supervision and development/mentorship/coaching of early career academic colleagues in subject area/team.
E7: Track record of continuous engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
