Job description

Job purpose

To play a leading role in ensuring the University achieves the objectives of its Learning and Teaching Strategy through delivery of a number of key initiatives for the transformation of curricula and assessment and the development of students’ learning and skills. Work closely with Learning and Teaching Strategy Unit colleagues and others leading on Strategy initiatives in Student and Academic Services, and with other stakeholders to coordinate and achieve objectives.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of the Learning and Teaching Strategy Unit (LTSU):

1. Work with LTSU colleagues, and others, on the development, implementation and embedding of the programme of work that enables L&T Strategy.

2. Work with LTSU colleagues, and others, to develop the specification of, and support the implementation of, tools to enable digital assessment solutions, and the mapping and visualisation of curricula to enable a programmatic approach to design and delivery of learning.

3. Work with LTSU colleagues, and others, to develop and implement a new effective, efficient and facilitative process for the approval and review of curricula and other quality-related work. Advise on appropriate systems to be implemented to support this and support any work to implement them.

4. Establish and maintain effective and appropriate arrangements to work in partnership with the range of stakeholders from across the University to ensure the tools described above:

Facilitate the strategic planning of curricular and assessment development that embeds student-centred, active learning, cross-institution general and local skills-related course

*           Provide relevant information to and interact appropriately with related systems and processes and satisfy University requirements for information and for the assurance and enhancement of academic quality and standards

*           Contribute to the simplification and streamlining of the University’s programme regulations.

5. Contribute to the work and development of Student and Academic Services. This may include such activity as support for quality enhancement and assurance procedures to ensure alignment with LTSU work.

6. Actively participate in LTSU team meetings, ways of working, and business, and contribute to planning and resource management processes.

7. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Head of the Learning and Teaching Strategy Unit.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge /Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary professional knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different specialist roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in a management role(s).

A2 Well-developed knowledge of academic structures, systems and processes in a multi-faculty university, including those for quality assurance and enhancement.

 

Desirable:

B1 Possess a solid understanding of academic principles, processes, and practices, with familiarity in research methodologies and educational systems.

Essential

C1 A strategic operator, with a change-oriented approach, who is creative and solution-focussed.

C2 Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to quickly and effectively analyse complex issues in order to describe appropriate solutions.

C3 A self-motivated, positive thinker with a ‘can do’ attitude, a sense of purpose and the drive to deliver a world-class student and stakeholder experience.

C4 Strong presentation and facilitation skills and the credibility and influence to work effectively with academic staff, senior decision makers and student leaders.

C5 Highly skilled in and extensive experience of report writing.

C6 A strong team player with an inclusive and purposeful team-based approach.

C7 Excellent programme and project management skills with the ability to deliver in line with objectives, within agreed timescales and in budget.

C8 Excellent organisational and time management skills.

C9 Highly developed digital skills.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1 Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing strategic projects in a large organisation setting.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of engaging in projects focused on systems enhancements.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 8, £49,559 - £57,422 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hrs p/week) and open ended
