Junior Biostatistician
GRADE 6

Job Purpose
As a Junior Biostatistician within the Robertson Centre for Biostatistics you will work under the supervision of more senior staff, carrying out statistical programming, analyses, reporting, validation, and teaching (where applicable).
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To contribute to the primary objective of the Centre, supporting research projects that will improve the treatment of patients and the practice of medicine.
2. To work under supervision on assigned projects, carrying out statistical tasks (programming, writing analysis plans and reports, and contributing to manuscripts for publication).
3. To carry out validation of other biostatisticians’ work.
4. To undergo training in more advanced statistical methods, and statistical programming.
5. To undergo training and gain experience of statistical consultancy.
6. To meet with and present results to external collaborators, with support from more senior staff.
7. To contribute to the delivery of courses run by the Centre.
8. To meet deadlines set by senior staff.
9. To comply with Centre Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and production of internal statistical documentation.
10. To act professionally and maintain confidentiality at all times.
11. To participate in internal and external audits.
12. To contribute to administrative tasks within the Centre.

Qualifications/Knowledge
Essential:
A1. SCQF Level 10 [Honours degree] in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline, or equivalent honours BSc in Statistics or Statistics with Mathematics, or MSc in Statistics or Biostatistics, or equivalent.
A2. Demonstrable knowledge of relevant statistics and statistical analysis
A3. Basic understanding of clinical trial and epidemiological study design.
Desirable:
B1. An awarded [or recently submitted or near completion] PhD in statistics, statistics and mathematics or biostatistics
Skills
Essential:
C1. Clear statistical programming, data analysis, and interpretation skills
C2. Good communication skills [oral and written], including ability to communicate statistical methods and results clearly and concisely
C3. Good interpersonal skills including team working and a collegiate approach
C4. Appropriate workload and prioritisation skills, including the ability to balance competing demands whilst sustaining and quality output
Desirable:
D1. Statistical programming using SAS.
Experience
Essential:
E1. Demonstrable experience of statistical programming either in a work setting or as part of a student project.
Desirable:
F1. Working experience as a biostatistician.
F2. Experience of SAS programming.

Terms and Conditions
Working hours are normally Monday to Friday 9am-5pm, with a one-hour lunch break. There is a requirement to work in the CTU offices on the Gilmorehill campus a minimum of 50% of the working week. We are open to either remote working or on campus working for the other 50% of the week (hybrid working offered on a non-contractual basis). Candidates must reside within commuting distance of Glasgow.
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951- £37,694 per annum
This position is full time and open ended.
