Job description

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Student Marketing & Recruitment to join the University’s College of Social Sciences (CoSS). We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking leader to oversee student recruitment and marketing on a College-wide basis.

In this influential role, you will drive the development and implementation of student marketing and recruiting strategies for CoSS, as well as establish and develop an informal matrix management approach alongside School recruitment and marketing leads. You will define and monitor shared Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), delivering student recruitment related insights and market intelligence to support strategic planning and inform College Management Group decisions. With responsibility for recruitment and marketing planning and budgets, you will also ensure that resources are deployed efficiently for maximum return on investment.

In addition to the above priorities, you will act as the key liaison with our central External Relations, ensuring that our activities align with institutional objectives and priorities and contribute to broader policy development.

This role would be ideal for someone who has a strong understanding of digital marketing trends, market intelligence, and student recruitment methodologies, and who possesses substantial experience in a senior marketing or recruitment role within higher education or a similarly complex organisation. The postholder will also lead the strategic development and implementation of international student recruitment initiatives and partnerships, therefore experience in international student recruitment and transnational education initiatives is essential.

Job Purpose:

To provide strategic leadership and oversight of student recruitment and marketing activities across the College of Social Sciences (CoSS). The postholder will develop and implement College-wide strategies, working closely with School recruitment and marketing leads and act as the primary liaison with External Relations to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and policy development.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and recruitment strategy for CoSS, ensuring alignment with the University's overall objectives and policies.

  2. Directly manage the College-based recruitment and marketing team. Establish and oversee a matrix management approach with School-based recruitment and marketing teams to enhance coordination, reduce duplication, and ensure strategic alignment across the College.

  3. Define and monitor shared Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the College, ensuring consistent performance evaluation and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Provide relevant market intelligence and student recruitment insights to support strategic planning and inform College Management Group priorities, ensuring evidence-based decision-making.

  4. Act as the principal interface between CoSS and External Relations, contributing to institutional policy development and ensuring College strategies are aligned with University-wide priorities.

  5. Oversee recruitment and marketing planning and budgets across the College to maximise return on investment and ensure efficient resource deployment.

  6. Lead the coordination of cross-College campaigns and initiatives, ensuring brand consistency, effective audience segmentation, and comprehensive impact analysis. Manage relationships with agencies and other third parties as appropriate.

  7. Facilitate a community of practice among recruitment and marketing professionals within CoSS, encouraging the sharing of best practices, innovation, and professional development.

  8. Lead the strategic development and implementation of international student recruitment initiatives, including transnational education (TNE) and student recruitment-focused partnerships, in collaboration with key stakeholders and in alignment with broader University objectives.
