Job Purpose
This role supports the University of Glasgow’s engagement with Chinese-speaking audiences, including prospective and current students, alumni, and partner institutions. The post holder will create and manage content for Chinese social media platforms, assist with marketing and communications strategies, and contribute to student recruitment and engagement, and alumni engagement.
The position offers hands-on experience in digital marketing and social media management, focusing on Chinese channels such as Weibo, WeChat, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book).
Main Duties & Responsibilities
1. Content Creation & Channel Management
- Develop engaging, authentic content for Chinese social media platforms, showcasing research, student life, and campus experiences.
- Create multimedia content (video, graphics) tailored to Chinese audiences.
- Assist in launching and managing new channels (e.g., Xiaohongshu), ensuring content resonates with platform-specific audiences.
- Translate materials between English and Mandarin as required.
2. Community Engagement & Customer Service
- Respond to comments, messages, and mentions to foster community and support student recruitment.
- Liaise with admissions and recruitment teams to provide timely, accurate responses during key recruitment periods.
3. Strategy & Research
- Support the development of digital marketing strategies for China and East Asia.
- Monitor and benchmark performance against other institutions’ Chinese social media accounts.
- Stay updated on Chinese social media trends, popular culture, and current events to inform content planning.
4. Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with the Digital Content Coordinator, Marketing Officer, Communications Officer and other university teams to ensure a cohesive approach.
- Compile analytics and reports to evaluate campaign performance and engagement.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Knowledge of Chinese and Scottish culture, and ideally the higher education sector.
Skills

C1 Fluency in Mandarin and strong English writing skills.
C2 Ability to create video content and basic editing skills.
C3 Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
C4 Excellent attention to detail and proofreading ability.
C5 Creative and enthusiastic approach to tasks and projects.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience creating and publishing digital content on social media (personal or professional).
Desirable:
F1 Experience with video editing software (e.g., Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro).
F2 Experience with photo editing tools (e.g., Canva).
F3 Active social media user with interest in emerging trends.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 4, £25,804 - £27,319 per annum pro rata.
This post is part time (14 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 12 months from start date.
