Job description

The role will manage the day-to-day activity in operational delivery of the Centre’s strategic objectives, working closely with the College Research Support Office and School Finance team, assessing opportunities and constraints to inform high quality decision-making in effectively crystallising the Centre’s ambition.

 

Enhancing the Centre’s profile and reputation with external partners and a highly effective digital presence to enable business growth will be a critical role in supporting the Centre’s success and sustainability. Responsibilities will include CREATe’s external digital presence, resources and partner relationships that will attract new research and knowledge exchange awards.

 

The role will link to CREATe’s presence in the Advanced Research Centre (ARC) and will contribute to the University’s wider knowledge exchange, impact, and commercialisation agenda. The position reflects the needs of the Centre, which brings together a complex but highly effective combination of research, knowledge exchange and teaching activity.

 

The post holder will have line management responsibilities for administrative staff.

 

Duties/Responsibilities

 

1.     Take a lead role, in collaboration with the research team to plan, monitor and review the strategic aims, objectives and key milestones of the Centre.

 

2.     Manage and develop support staff, services, systems, and budgets to secure effective and efficient delivery of projects or a portfolio of projects: within agreed timescales, budgets and scope.

 

3.     Develop and maintain effective communication and relationships with all partners, funders and other stakeholders.

 

4.     Effectively develop, manage and enhance CREATe’s digital resources, outreach and marketing activities to ensure effective dissemination of outputs to stakeholders including, industry, public, Government agencies and other interested parties.

 

5.     Supervise and deliver virtual and in-person conferences, event, and training activities on behalf of the Centre.

 

6.     Facilitate and proactively support grant/contract bids and represent the Centre and partners in negotiation with external funding agencies.

 

7.     Facilitate and lead the development of fit-for-purpose outcome management processes and information services (including analysis, interpretation, risk).

 

8.     Responsible for training, PDR and appraisals for administrative staff as appropriate.

 

9.     Undertake any other appropriate duties as may be identified in respect of increasing research, knowledge exchange and training funding, including analysis of application and award data and managing relevant working groups and committees.

 

10.   Engage in reasonable professional development activities as appropriate.

 

11.   Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s strategic plan.

 

 Knowledge/Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

 Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9,10 or 11 (Ordinary/Honours Degree, Post Graduate Qualification), or equivalent, including being professionally qualified in relevant discipline, with a broad range of professional experience in similar role(s).

A2 Excellent knowledge of a range of project management tools and approaches that can be used to support higher education-led research, knowledge exchange and training projects.

A3 Knowledge and understanding of the UK academic environment including the complex mix of pressures, constraints, motivations and risk/reward positions of academic staff, and institutions.

A4 Understanding of the dynamics of governments, research funding councils, and research markets worldwide, particularly different funding regimes and the extent to which funders will cover the Full Economic Cost (FEC) of projects

A5. Awareness and experience of contractual, legal and financial matters in relation to research funding applications and contracts.

 

Desirable

B1 Some familiarity with law, technology, creative economy and/or related social and political contexts.

 

Skills 

 

Essential

C1 Demonstrably excellent strategic planning, analytical and problem-solving skills, bridging the gap between technical and non-technical.

C2 Ability to write detailed project plans and ensure these are agreed and communicated with the project team, project board and stakeholders.

C3 Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse technical and lay audiences using a range of media.

C4 Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively negotiate, work with and engage with researchers, policy makers, members of the public and community groups.

C5 Advanced IT skills, including using online platforms to host events, workshops, or interactive sessions, report and presentation writing, and skills for web editing using a content management system.

C6 Proven skills with using social media to promote projects and engage stakeholders and the wider public.

C7 Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing environments.

C8 Ability to work across sectoral boundaries with a wide range of professions and disciplines.

 

Desirable 

D1 Skills in University-sector financial management procedure.

 

Experience 

 

Essential 

E1 Substantial experience in a similar or related role(s), demonstrating development and progression within these role(s).

E2 Experience of successfully developing research, knowledge exchange and training funding proposals.

E4 Experience of planning, coordinating, monitoring and recording of research activities and their impact.

 

Desirable

F1 Experience of working with researchers in a multi-disciplinary environment.

F2 Experience of workshop facilitation.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.

 

This post is full time and open ended. This role is offered on a hybrid working basis
