Job Purpose
As a business analyst in the Student Records/Admissions team, you will act as a subject matter expert on Student Information Systems and processes. You will provide business analysis and related project services to support and develop the University’s Student Information Systems (including Campus Solutions and related systems), ensuring continuing business improvement to reflect best practice, changing expectations, emerging opportunities and new requirements. You will work with stakeholders in Information Services and engage across our professional and academic services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Work with the Team Leads to evaluate, document and test new software releases and upgrades.
2. Collect requirements from users, define and document application requirements. Support the creation of business process flows for “as is” process and for proposed system changes.
Challenge existing process and policy and contribute to the development of policy to ensure uniform processes throughout the University.
3. Where configuration and/or system development is required, contribute to the preparation of a business case for consideration by the Project Board.
4. Lead in implementation projects for approved enhancements and developments:
a. gathering, analysing and documenting business requirements and translating into technical requirements.
b. playing significant role in the test cycle including the creation and execution of test plans.
c. leading change management associated with implementation of new functionality and enhancements including communication, training and user engagement.
5. Maintain documentation in line with agreed quality standards, guidelines and procedures.
6. Using expert knowledge of the system and processes, work with the Team Leads to evaluate whether user needs can be met through delivered functionality and/or through process change
7. Identify issues and risks which may arise from a range of sources, consider their impact, and apply initiative and judgement to resolve or escalate, as appropriate.
8. Employ appropriate skills and techniques to build relationships and help manage resistance to change. Using detailed knowledge of Campus Solutions and other University systems, assist, support and engage with colleagues across the University to support and embed changes.
9. Develop and continuously update a detailed knowledge of Campus Solutions and other related systems, and student lifecycle related business processes. Ensure that specialist knowledge is used when engaging with users of the system through either support or development/ change activities.
10. Identify and attend relevant conferences, user groups/ networks such as on-line communities to develop and expand institutional knowledge base for Campus Solutions functional and technical topics, and other systems as required.
11. Undertake other relevant training, professional and personal development.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or, Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
A2 Excellent working knowledge and understanding of business analysis tools and techniques.
A3 Familiarity with agile development methodologies and experience working in an agile environment, including user story creation and backlog grooming. A4 Knowledge of software testing principles, methodologies, and best practices.
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge of relevant University policies, practices and procedures.
B2 Detailed knowledge of at least one module of Campus Solutions and an overall understanding of the product.
B3 Certification in Business Analysis.

C7 Proficient IT user with the ability to utilise tools and systems effectively to support analysis, reporting, and delivery.
C8 Ability to identify, assess, and manage risks, dependencies, and blockers to ensure successful outcomes.
Desirable:
D1 Developing User Acceptance test plans.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Practical experience in business analysis, utilising business analysis methods to document data structures and business processes and defining business requirements.
E2 Practical experience of stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders throughout the development cycle and beyond.
E3 Experience in translating business process information and requirements (as-is) to conceptualise the information as a technology solution (to-be).
E4 Experience of developing reports, presentations and workshops to present insights from business analysis activity and/or to present findings and recommendations for service change to a wide range of customers and staff at all levels in an organisation.
Desirable:
F1 Experience of system testing.
F2 Experience of Software Development Tools: e.g. SQL Developer, Jira.
F3 Familiarity with a Higher Education environment.
F4 Experience of working with Campus Solutions.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
The University is looking to appoint two full time (35 hours p/w) Business Analyst’s. One appointment will be open ended (permanent) and the other appointment will be fixed term for up to 12 months. If you have a preference, please indicate this one your cover letter.
