Job Purpose

To be present on the gym floor to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, through exceptional instruction to support the UofG members with their training requirements. To supervise key UofG Sport exercise areas, positively contributing to the delivery of an outstanding customer experience that promotes UofG Sport as a core part of the student journey.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Responsibility for the supervision of the PowerPlay conditioning suite, (19 Platforms, Technogym Resistance machines, Kettlebells, powerbags, climbing frame and other equipment) and Pulse (80 pieces of CV equipment, stretch area and Technogym resistance machines) of the Stevenson Building, offering guidance and direction where necessary, and ensuring the safety of members, to  add to the positive and engaging culture.

2. Using appropriate methods to instruct gym inductions, workshops and gym challenges taking place in PowerPlay and Pulse to suit a wide range of capability and needs.

3. Contribute to maintaining member satisfaction and ensure members are engaged and supported at all times.

4. Ensure equipment in PowerPlay and Pulse areas are maintained to a high standard ensuring and maintaining a safe environment, reporting any equipment faults to Duty Manager (Operations).

5. Ensuring members understand and adhere to the UofG Sport standards/rules, and membership Terms and Conditions.

6. Attend internal and external training as required to ensure product knowledge is current.

7. Promote the UofG Sport programme with the aim of increasing participation and specifically contribute to the programming of the two primary exercise areas.

8. Have full working knowledge of Technogym equipment and programmes to actively promote the full benefits of using the system to customers.

9. Responsible for the delivery of the agreed induction process.

10. Attend team meetings as required.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills & Experience 

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential: 

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework Level 5/6 (National 5/6, VQ2/3) or equivalent, or experience in a similar role, or the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).

A2 Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification with 2 years full-time experience of working within a gym environment.

 

Desirable:

B1 Level 3 Personal Trainer Award.

B2 UKSCA Accredited Coach.

B3 Other relevant industry-based qualifications.

B4 Basic familiarity with standard office software such as MS Office, email and the internet.

B5 Current First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid Qualification or willing to complete qualification within first 3 months of employment.

Experience

Essential:

E1 Relevant experience working with adults/groups in a health/fitness/wellbeing environment with above qualification or evidence of progression and development gained through work experience.

E2 Experience of working with people demonstrating a range of abilities.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of working in a University sporting environment.

F2 Experience of delivering group exercise sessions.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 4, £24,685 - £26,707 per annum pro rata.

 

This post is part-time (15 hours per week), and open ended. There is no fixed work pattern in this role and it will change week to week.
