Job description

Job Purpose
To provide a range of mobility, teaching and research support to a member of staff with a visual impairment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. To chaperone the staff member to work in locations across the University of Glasgow Gilmorehill Campus as required, including assistance upon arrival/departure and ensuring a safe route of passage between locations throughout the day.
2. Support the staff member to identify and rehearse routes to travel independently.
3. Support the staff member with the set-up and where necessary the operation of IT and AV equipment required for teaching, in various locations across the Gilmorehill Campus.
4. Provide administrative support with the visual operation of IT packages when required.
5. As required, accompany the staff member to external conferences and meetings to ensure safe movement around the location.
6. Undertake relevant training as appropriate to the role.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience and Skills
Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Adobe Reader
Desirable:
B1 Knowledge of the Moodle virtual learning environment
Skills
Essential:
C1 Attention to detail and surroundings.
C2 Good planning and organisation skills.
C3 Excellent timekeeping.
C4 Strong interpersonal skills.
C5 A flexible working approach to meeting the changing priorities of the staff member.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Experience guiding individuals with visual impairments.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 4, £25,804 - £27,319 per annum, pro rata.
This post is part time (14 hours per week) and fixed term up until 30th August 2026.
In non-teaching weeks there will be a minimal amount of chaperoning, but attendance may still be required at meetings, events and symposiums.
