Job description

Job Purpose
Informed by College and University strategies, and in partnership with other cognate roles within the function, this role will lead on the delivery, and where appropriate the development, of processes and practices to demonstrate compliance with and support of our institutional policies and responsibilities.
The College Student Services Function
The College of Arts & Humanities Student Services unit oversees two key areas of activity: the registration and enrolment and ongoing support of new pre-honours students as well as aspects of the Postgraduate student journey. The Service also oversees and supports aspects of academic advising, overseeing compliance with university policy and regulations in the delivery of academic provision. The function also advises and supports academic schools on the management and enhancement of learning, teaching and the student experience.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Leading on the delivery of University and College strategic objectives for learning, teaching and the student experience (LTSE), ensuring compliance with key areas of university policy governing learning, teaching and the student experience.
2. Responding to changing institutional priorities and emerging themes, influenced by internal and external developments, and ensuring university policy is appropriately embedded and reviewed.
3. Reviewing and providing specialist professional advice to colleagues across the College on regulatory matters ensuring the appropriate enforcement of regulations.
4. Making a leading contribution to formal College committees and other forums relevant to learning, teaching and student experience and contributing to planning and processes as appropriate.
5. Representing the College on University-led projects and ensuring developments are communicated in order to influence working practices across the College and more widely.
6. Ensuring the application of appropriate technology and compliance with university policies for managing personal and confidential data.
7. Managing the College response standard quality monitoring exercises including, but not limited to, Periodic Subject Review responses, Academic Quality and Enhancement Review.
8. Line Managing staff and staff performance as appropriate reflecting the principles of service excellence.
9. Collaborating with relevant University Services to ensure key risks are managed including, but not limited to, compliance with student visa and immigration policy, obligations arising from the Equality Act 2010 and health and safety legislation and policy.
10. Undertaking any other duties reasonably assigned by the Line Manager.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential:
A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).
A2 Knowledge of regulatory frameworks in the sector and an understanding of their importance within university governance and compliance structures.
Skills
Essential:
C1 Proven organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
C2 Highly effective leadership and management skills and ability to work independently, setting own priorities and those within a team.
C3 Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills and the ability to co-operate with colleagues across organisational boundaries.
C4 Proven track record of leading change, applying strategic thinking and planning skills and implementing process improvement delivery across a complex organisation.
C5 Proven track record of successful project management.
C6 Ability to deliver under pressure, to meet tight deadlines and the ability to maintain momentum in the face of challenges and setbacks within a complex organisation structure.
C7 Well-developed data management and IT skills to enable continuous improvement.
Experience
Essential:
E1 Significant experience of demonstrating high levels of autonomy within a student-facing, or equivalent customer focused, environment within a complex matrix organisational structure.
E2 Significant experience of managing and developing colleagues and teams and of managing staff performance.
E3 Demonstrable prior experience of providing high quality advice, guidance and data analysis to others.
E4 Significant experience of initiating and working collaboratively to implement and manage change.
Desirable:
F1 Previous administrative experience within Further or Higher Education.
F2 Experience of using a student records or other customer enquiry management system.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 7, £41,064 - £46,049 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
