Job description

This role is restricted to new postgraduate taught (PGT) students joining the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences for the 2026/27 academic year. Applicants must hold and have accepted an unconditional offer. Please confirm that you meet these criteria.

 

Job Purpose

 

As a Student Ambassador for the School of Social and Political Sciences, you will represent the School and University of Glasgow to prospective students from the UK and around the world.

 

You must be a current master’s student studying on a postgraduate taught programme within the School of Social and Political Sciences.

 

What you will do:

 

You will support the School’s Student Recruitment and Marketing team by attending events online and in-person, speaking with prospective students, sharing your experiences and answering questions.

 

A key aspect of this role will be leveraging your creativity, experience, and expertise to produce engaging content across multiple channels, including social media reels, TikTok videos, long-form video content, and occasional blog posts. You will create and deliver high-quality content that supports digital marketing and social media campaigns, helping to increase audience engagement and brand awareness.

 

You should be enthusiastic about sharing your experiences of your master’s programme, student life at the University of Glasgow and living in Glasgow, helping prospective students to get a better understanding of what it is like to study here.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Sharing your experiences of being a student at the School of Social & Political Sciences to help guide others in making their decision.
  2. Engage with future students through online events, including webinars, mini lectures, and student panels, where you will share your experiences of your master’s programme and student life, participate in live Q&A sessions, and answer questions from prospective students.
  3. Attend in-person events on an occasional basis, representing the school and University and answer any questions from prospective students.
  4. You will create interesting and easy-to-understand content like videos, and social media posts and occasional blogs to show what student life is like and promote the School of Social & Political Sciences.
  5. You will participate in photo and video shoots that showcase the student experience and support the School’s promotional efforts.
  6. As this is a casual worker role, you will have the chance to choose which content tasks you want to volunteer for each month in order to earn payment.
  7. You will have to submit your timesheets each month so we can make sure you get paid on time.
  8. You will report to the Student Recruitment Lead and the Digital Marketing Lead, who will review and approve your timesheets. Maintaining clear and regular communication will be key.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Current student who is studying on a postgraduate taught (PGT) programme in the School of Social & Political Sciences

A2 Enthusiastic about the University of Glasgow as a great place to study and the city of Glasgow as a great place to live

 

Desirable:

B1 Basic understanding of popular social media platforms (such as Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn) and how they are used to share information and connect with others.

 

Skills

Essential:

C1 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills – friendly, professional and confident manner, comfortable with sharing your experiences as well as able to respond positively to questions and tailor your responses when needed

C2 Professional approach – you will be representing the University and should always be professional

C3 Excellent time-management skills and reliability – the Student Recruitment and Marketing team need to make sure that they can rely on you to attend events on time, meet deadlines that are given and engage proactively with tasks

C4 Teamwork - able to work well with other ambassadors, staff, and faculty to achieve shared goals.

C5 Cultural awareness - respectful and inclusive when interacting with students from many different backgrounds.

C6 Initiative - willing to share ideas and take responsibility for tasks like creating content or supporting events

 

Experience:

Essential:

No previous experience required; full training will be provided.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience creating social media content for personal, academic, or community purposes.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 3, £24,685 - £25,249 per annum pro rata.

 

This post is offered on a fractional basis and is fixed term until the 18th of November 2027
