Job Purpose

 

The School of Law’s Glasgow Open Justice Centre seeks to empower individuals and communities to use the law to access justice and achieve fair outcomes. We do this by conducting research on the law and Social Justice, addressing unmet legal need and embedding core professional values in legal education. The post holder will provide effective and proactive administrative support for the Glasgow Open Justice team to ensure an excellent service and experience for both staff and students.

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

 

1.  To act as the main point of contact for students and staff within the Glasgow Open (GO) Justice Centre, delivering high quality support and liaising with academic leads, other colleagues within the school, cross-University colleagues, and students.

2.  Coordinate student placements under the direction of the GO Justice Centre Manager, this will include but not exhaustive of - completion of Risk assessments, Disclosure Scotland checks, communication with students and external partners as required.

3.  Act as first point of contact for the Centre’s mailboxes, identifying complex queries while proactively responding and taking responsibility for the escalation of queries/issues in line with the school’s policies and procedures.

4.  Provide external and internal communication support to the wider GO Justice team, this will include managing and updating the website, mailing lists, newsletter, and social media platforms.

5.  Assist in the planning, delivery, and hosting of GO Justice-related events, engaging with internal colleagues and external individuals/organisations.

6.  Support to feed into and implement the overarching strategic plan for GO Justice, often liaising with the school employability team, student experience team, and colleagues in the wider University.

7.  Provide effective administrative and organisational support to the Centre Manager, staff and Directors. e.g., note taking, minutes, meeting planning, organisation of student applications and email communication in line with GDPR policies.

8.  Support to identify, develop and implement new processes and procedures.

9.  Support with engaging and identifying wider clinical legal education networks that are of benefit to students and GO Justice i.e. CLEO, SULCN

10.  Provide support to the Student Pro Bono Committee where required.

11.  Act as a key contact for the Learning and teaching team to recruit students into clinics, ensuring students involved meet the criteria as well as have the correct provisions in place i.e. PVG’s

12.  Ensure full compliance with university wide policies and procedures, including the processing of confidential information.

13.  Other duties as directed by the Head of Professional Services and the GO Justice Centre Manager (line manager) and requested by academic colleagues. Events and activity related to this role may take place out with core working hours e.g. early evening. As such the role will occasionally require some work out with normal working hours.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or: Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Strong IT proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office knowledge, including Word and Excel.

A3 Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion policies and practice.

 

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of Various IT systems, e.g., Moodle, MyCampus, T4.

B2 Knowledge and understanding of higher education environment, especially in relation to experiential learning and or Clinical Legal Education.

B3 Knowledge or Understanding of the civil/criminal justice systems and third sector advice provisions in Scotland.

Experience

 

Essential:

E1 Relevant work experience in student support and/or project management roles, showing growth and development within these roles.

E2 Experience of working with a wide variety of colleagues and key contacts, both internal and external to your immediate team/department/organisation.

E3 Experience of organising events and promoting participation with key audiences.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience within a higher education setting. and/or Charity setting.

F2 Experience working in legal education.

F3 Experience working with vulnerable service users and/or groups.

 

Terms and Conditions

 

Salary will be Grade 5, £28,031 - £31,236 per annum.

 

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and fixed term for up to 24 months from start date in the first instance.
