Job Purpose

Research support in the College of Arts & Humanities is comprehensive and covers research development and funding, partnership development, training and support (Arts Lab), knowledge exchange and impact. It also works in close collaboration with researchers through committees, for a and other groups. The role holder will contribute to research support across the range of services with responsibility for key activities.

 

Main duties and responsibilities

1. Provide administrative research support for College processes, including Academic Promotions, Ethics and training activities, including gathering and managing relevant data.

2. Work with the College HR team as a point of contact for Principal Investigators and Research Office colleagues in respect of administering agreed staffing requests on research projects in line with University/College/School procedures and project change processes and control.

3. In coordination with the Project Coordinators, provide costing and other pre-award support as requested, contributing to the research application pipeline in the College.

4. Manage Research Office shared email inbox, responding to queries or escalating/distributing as appropriate.

5. Compile and distribute the fortnightly Research Office funding newsletter.

6. Act as the main point of contact for the operational delivery of the AHRC Impact Acceleration Account (AHRC IAA) programme in the College. To record, monitor and take responsibility for expenditure against the budget and to work with the steering group and Knowledge Exchange Associates (KEAs) to manage the programme.

7. Assist KEAs with the coordination of applications to the AHRC IAA and to maintain accurate records.

8. In coordination with the KEAs, provide post-award support on IAA projects, including, for example, monitoring post award expenditure against budget and highlighting potential issues.

9. Provide Arts Lab with comprehensive administrative support, including administration of the application development service (ADS), budget management for Labs, data and information management including updating web resources, coordinating participation in Arts Lab training sessions and other events and maintaining records of activities for the cross-college initiative.

10. Provide administrative support for knowledge exchange and partnership development events and activities and for research-related committees as required.

11. Engage in professional development activities where appropriate.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, OR the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge in a similar role.

 

Skills

Essential:

C1 Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing to ensure good customer service.

C2 Ability to develop good working relationships with stakeholders.

C3 Able to effectively use financial systems e.g. to set up and monitor budgets.

C4 Able to develop and apply processes and procedures to manage projects.

C5 Excellent numeracy and attention to detail.

C6 Knowledge and understanding of data integrity and its importance.

C7 Strong IT skills including Outlook, Excel, Word and networked system software.

C8 Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently.

C9 Effective planning, organising, prioritising and time management, delivering work to a high standard and on time.

 

Desirable:

D1 Ability to use CoreHR or other human resource systems.

D2 Ability to use Moodle or other virtual learning environments.

D3 Knowledge of T4 or other similar content management system.

 

Experience

Essential:

E1 Experience of working in a complex environment and communicating with different departments/functions.

E2 Experience of providing administrative support over different types of activity and to several different teams.

E3 Experience of collecting and presenting data and information to stakeholders.

 

Desirable:

F1 Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.

F2 Experience of handling funding applications to deadlines, including managing and maintaining processes to record evaluations and outcomes.

F3 Experience of administering events, workshops and meetings including preparation of minutes.

F4 Experience of research or impact support.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £28,031 - £31,236 per annum.
