We have an exciting opportunity for Clinical Teaching Fellow at our Glasgow Dental Hospital and School which is the major dental referral and teaching centre in the West of Scotland based in the heart of the city centre of Glasgow. It benefits from comprehensive modern facilities for patient care, student training, and for education and research into dental and oral diseases and disorders. We provide staff with excellent opportunities to develop their clinical teaching skills.

 

Job Purpose

To deliver clinical teaching and supervision for undergraduate dental students.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Alongside experienced colleagues, to support the delivery of clinical teaching to undergraduate dental students. On average there are approximately 80 undergraduate students a year.

2. To provide treatment for student clinic patients requiring emergency management or completion of clinical treatment on occasions when students are not available.

3. To participate in a range of assessment activities for undergraduate students, in accordance with the teaching objectives of the Dental School.

4. To provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.

5. To assess newly referred patients regarding their suitability for treatment by a dental student.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications

 

Essential:

A1 Registrable qualification with the General Dental Council.

 

Desirable:

B1 FDS or MFDS from one of the Surgical Royal Colleges or equivalent.

B2 Hold, working towards, or show willingness to work towards a certificate in Academic Practice, or equivalent learning and teaching qualification.

B3 Experience as a Dental Vocational Trainer.

 

Skills

 

Essential:

C1 Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

C2 Excellent presentation skills.

C3 Willingness and ability to work as part of a team.

 

Experience

 

Essential:

E1 Minimum of 4 years post qualification with significant clinical experience.

 

Desirable:

F1 Some experience of delivering undergraduate teaching.

 

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be on the Speciality Doctor Pay Scale £50,780 - £94,689 per annum pro rata.

 

This post is part time, 7 hours per week and open-ended.

 

An honorary clinic contract will be arranged by application to the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
