Job description

Job Purpose

 

Full-time position in Singapore to deliver teaching on the BSc degree programme in Computing Science offered jointly by the University of Glasgow (through the University of Glasgow Singapore (UGS)) and Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT); to engage in scholarship in order to contribute to the advancement of the discipline and/or its teaching practice at course, degree programme, school, institution, profession and national levels; and, to undertake administrative and management tasks associated with University of Glasgow Singapore activities. The required areas of expertise for this position are: (1) Software Engineering (2) Computer Architecture and Operating System (3) Programming and Algorithms. Additionally, knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning and Data Analytics are desirable.

UGS is a subsidiary of the University of Glasgow that works in partnership with SIT. Its mission is to:

*         Provide PhD and professional development training in support of industry in Singapore

This post is based at the Punggol campus of SIT in Singapore and from time to time, you may be required to work at a different campus. There is a requirement to visit the UK annually for induction and personal development activities as appropriate.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Take a leading role in the planning, organisation, delivery and assessment of undergraduate teaching activities in computing science and engineering within UGS, in a manner that supports an enhanced student learning experience.

2. Collaborate with colleagues at the University of Glasgow and SIT to ensure coherent delivery of the degree programmes at UGS.

3. Participate fully in assessment and examination processes using a variety of methods, as appropriate, and provide feedback to students that is relevant, timely and supports learning.

4. Supervise and oversee individual and team student projects.

5. Contribute as appropriate to the Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP) taught at the Glasgow campus during the summer.

6. Engagement in scholarship: attendance and participation in seminars / conferences within subject area and in relation to teaching practice. Ensuring that teaching practices are of the highest standard relative to international best practices.

7. Work with colleagues in Glasgow and Singapore to develop joint teaching and learning projects and to secure the funding required to underpin the long-term growth of teaching and learning innovation.

8. Disseminate scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) through publications in journals and presentations at national and international conferences, enhancing the reputation of the University of Glasgow Singapore.

9. Engage in professional development activities as appropriate and in external academic and professional activities to enhance the reputation of the University of Glasgow Singapore.

10. Contribute to the administrative and management duties of the University of Glasgow Singapore, as allocated by the UGS Director and/or the UGS Computing Science Programme Director.

 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

 

Knowledge/Qualifications 

 

Essential: 

A1 A good Honours degree in a relevant discipline.

A2 PhD, or the equivalent professional qualifications and experience in computing science with previous personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A3 Experience in teaching courses in Programming, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, IoT, Data Analytics, Algorithms and Programming

A4 Comprehensive and up to date knowledge of developments in teaching, learning and assessment practices.

A5 Experience in teaching in the areas of expertise listed above and/or related subject areas.

A6 Evidence of innovation in teaching methods.

A7 Willingness to work in Singapore to deliver this role, subject to working and residency permissions.

C1 Proven track-record of effective teaching at undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate level.

C2 Excellent team leadership skills including demonstrable supervisory skills.

C3 Appropriate workload/time/project/budget/people management skills.

C5 Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in appropriate range of contexts.

C10 Ability to disseminate conceptual and complex ideas to a wide variety of audiences to promote understanding

 

Desirable:

D1 Experience and specialist knowledge in innovative approaches to assessment and feedback in HE.

 

Experience 

 

Essential: 

E1 A demonstrable, excellent teaching track record.

E2 Experience of developing and maintaining innovative teaching practices.

E3 Experience in designing and developing undergraduate and/or postgraduate taught courses.

E4 An excellent track record of performing administrative duties in a HE institution.

E5 Track record of student supervision.
